30 Day Tourism Extension

With reference to the quote below. Are you able to apply for a tourist visa (30 days) within Thailand on the day your existing visa or extension expires. Let's say for example, a non-immigrant B one year extension?

F. DO I NEED TO GET A 30 DAY EXTENSION OF STAY BASED ON TOURISM BEFORE BEING ALLOWED TO GET A 60 DAY EXTENSION OF STAY BASED ON UNABLE TO TRAVEL DUE TO COVID-19?
At most immigration offices, yes, you must apply for a 30 Day Extension of Stay Based on Tourism before applying for a 60 Day Extension of Stay Based on Unable to Travel Due to COVID-19.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post inquires about the possibility of applying for a 30-day tourist visa inside Thailand on the expiration date of an existing visa, specifically referencing a non-immigrant B visa. Responses indicate that it's not possible to obtain a tourist visa within Thailand, and additional guidance is provided on related extensions, such as the need for a tourism extension before applying for a COVID-related extension.

same but I couldn't post with this follow-up question as commenting switched off and wasn't sure how to quote like you just did. Reason I asked is because I saw a few comments about covid extensions being refused and when I re-read the TV Advice thread on covid I saw this (F) quote.

and if I were you ...now is not the time to quit any job which provides a Thai work permit.

Do what you can to stay put while preparing for your next step.

Can we cut to the quick ???

Is this for you...

Or a friend you keep referring to in recent posts?

Work permit cancellation options

"I know if you have a non-Immigrant B visa linked to your work permit and the work permit gets cancelled so does the visa.

What options are available to stay in the country if this happens? His work permit will end on November 18th. My friend would like to stay for another month and his school said he could get a covid extension but is this possible? I mean if his work permit is cancelled and his visa is cancelled he won't have a visa.

He's a UK citizen if that makes any difference and is planning to return to the UK mid-December.

Thanks in advance.:

Choice of Immigration Office

"Are you allowed to go to any Immigration office for all visa requirements or do you have to go to the one where you are located?

Just wondering how restrictive it is as my friend will be vising CM from Bangkok."

The reference does not make any sense. You can not compare an Visa Exempt Entry for 30 days with an Extension of Stay based on employment inside Thailand.

Please explain what you have in your passport and what you like to accomplish at the Immigration Office.

There are many options at the Immigration Office. As you like to keep your question a mystery I suggest to visit the Immigration Office with your passport and try to explain what you like to accomplish.

You cannot obtain a tourist visa inside Thailand.

And the last day to apply for the 60 day COVID extension is November 26th. Be prepared...if asked... to answer questions why you are unable to leave Thailand.

What visa and or extension of stay are you now on?

When did you enter Thailand?

planning to move to Chiang Mai...file a TM30 change of address to Chiang Mai and to apply for the COVID extension in Chiang Mai ?

Its possible you may be sent back to Bangkok CW as that is your registered address in Thailand.

Visa expires on Dec 12 but will stop working on Nov 21st when I will cancel the work permit and visa. Issued at Bangkok, living in the Bangkok area but wanting to come to Chiang Mai for a few weeks.

When does that extension of stay expire?

Are you still working?

If not...did you notify Thai Immigration and the Thai Ministry of Labor of the fact you stopped working?

What Thai Immigration office provided the one year extension of stay stamp in your passport?

Are you living in that immigration office area ?
