Hi, I have a non-b visa which runs out on the 31st of May, would I be allowed to stay in Thailand longer than this on a tourist visa? Is it possible to cancel my non b visa in Thailand and apply for the tourist visa all whilst staying in the country? Also what are the rules if I was to leave Thailand after my non b visa runs out and then re enter on a tourist visa shortly after?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a Non-B visa expiring on May 31 and seeks to know if they can stay longer on a tourist visa without leaving Thailand, as well as the rules for re-entering Thailand on a tourist visa after their Non-B expires. A comment indicates that one cannot apply for a tourist visa or extension in Thailand if holding a Non-B visa, and one must cancel their current visa and work permit officially before leaving the country.

You should be already on an extension based on employment, not the stamp directly from a Non-B visa. Unfortunately, no tourist visa/extension inside Thailand is available for you. You need to cancel your extension (and work permit) officially at the end of your current extension or when you finish working. Unless you can apply for any Non-O based extension immediately, you have to leave.

You need to meet the requirements entering Thailand whatever they would be when you enter. There is no specific rule by immigration to re-enter in a short period such as you have to be out of Thailand xx days.

Thanks for the info! If travel between countries becomes easier by May would I be able to leave Thailand and say go to Laos/Cambodia for a few weeks and then re enter Thailand on a 30 day tourist visa and extend that for another 60 days then when I am back here? I have a UK passport. Thanks!
