Hi, i am planning to go to Thailand at the end of the year and will,hopefully, be staying for 110 dDas. I will go on a non immigrant O/ spouse visa. That will give me 90 days. Can I get extention at the Immigration Police once I arrive in Khon Kaen for 30 days? I read that this type of visa can only be extended by a one year visa. I also read that extention by crossing the border is not allowed at this moment? Thank you πŸ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to stay in Thailand for 110 days on a Non-Immigrant O/spouse visa, which grants an initial 90 days. They inquire about the possibility of extending their stay by 30 days upon arrival in Khon Kaen, as well as the rules on extensions and border runs. Comments indicate that while a standard 30-day extension isn't available, one can apply for a 60-day family visit extension based on marriage after the initial period, provided the Thai spouse is present during the application.

you can come in on a 90 day non-O based on marriage and then easily get a 60 day visit thai family extension at your immigration office (with no proof of funds) which would give you a total of 5 months in country.

As people stated correctly there is no 30 day extension available on Non-Immigrant visas

does the Thai wife need to be present at Thai immigration when one makes application for the family visit extension?

FYI...

100% yes if you're applying for a 60 day visit thai family extension based on marriage the REASON you're applying for the extension (your thai wife) has to be there too

problem is that my wife and I will not be together the entire period of stay in Thailand. I'm retired but my wife still enjoys working hard every day πŸ˜‰(actually, she and our sons want to start a fish /shrimp farm) we will be together for a period of Six weeks after that, she will fly back to Belgium and I will be staying in Thailand.Does the extension of the visa has to be made At the end of the first period of stay? Or can we go together to the immigration police while she is in Thailand?

, she'd have to go to the immigration office with you to apply and you can't apply until you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp SO if you come in on a Non-O visa you'll get stamped in for 90 days and be able to do the 60 day visit thai family extension when you have 30 days or less left on that stamp (or 2 months into your stay here).

Do you already have your non-O visa/extension of stay or will you be applying for it before you leave for Thailand?
Darren *******
@Bart *******
yes, then if the 60 day option for having a Thai family is available then it avoids the need to apply for the non-O. I'm not sure on the 60 day option here so will leave someone with more knowledge than me explain.

Alternatively, visa exempt for 30 days then apply for the non-O in Thailand to give 120 days

OK, in which case if you want to stay for 110 days don't apply. Either arrive on visa exempt or apply for a tourist visa, you have a choice to then either extend this by an additional 30 days in country and/or or apply for a non-O once in Thailand. This takes you beyond your 110 days.

Someone may also correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there's also a 60 day visa available for having a Thai wife but as I'm not 100% certain on that I'll leave someone like Tod to clarify that should he see this post.

Hi Darren.After a good night's sleep, I guess you will be able again to reply to one of my questions.πŸ˜‰If I understand you correctly. Once in Thailand's I can Apply for a non O? Do I have to do this at a rrival or at the immigration police In Bangkok or can I do this at the Immigration Police in Khon Kaen? πŸ™

great. A lot of things to worry about, but it better safe than sorry. But the non O, will that be for spouse or retirement? As I don't have a Thai bank account, the retirement is not an option.

thanks. If I understand you correctly, I could apply for a tourist visa (30 days)( here in Belgium?), travel to Thailand and once there, apply for a non O at the Immigration Police in Khon which would give me 90 more days. Sorry for my confusion, it has been a long day πŸ˜‰
Darren *******
@Bart *******
tourist visa will give you 60 days plus you can then get a 30 day extension in Thailand for 1,900 baht.
