Just wanting to clarify - am on a 60 day Tourist visa which lasts till 16th January - living in Rawai currently - can I go to my local immigration office to get 30day extension? Or do I have to go to Bangkok? And - when's best time to do it before my tourist visa time frame expires? And ( excuse the list) do I need to take a tm30 from my landlord?

All you need, is to fill out a TM7, photo, copy home page and your current visa/stamp, and 1900 baht. Office opens at 8.30 Phuket Town, so if you arrive 30 minutes early, you'll be ahead of the masses. The office is downstairs, front left of building.

In Phuket there are three offices where you can extend your tourist visa. The main office in Phuket Town - generally very busy, the Patong Beach office - not as busy, and the office in the Blue Tree water park - usually not busy.

You apply at the immigration office that corresponds to where you are staying. Or more accurately you apply at the immigration office according to where your most recent host filed a TM30 for you.

At most offices you can apply for the 30 day tourist extension when you have 30 days or less left on your existing stay.
