Hello everyone, we are a family of 3 and prior to our son visited Thailand annually for over 10 years. Our son is 3 and had his first trip in March this year- we had the best time. We would love to send him to start school there for a couple of years if not longer (we are from Scotland!) ideally would like to do 2x 3 month trips next year to get a feel for it rather than just a 3 week holiday, with the plan of him starting school the following year (2026!) Amy advice or tips? Don’t know where to start if I’m honest. Thanks for you help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A family from Scotland is considering moving to Thailand for a couple of years to send their 3-year-old son to school. They seek advice on how to best approach this, including schooling options and relevant visa types. Commenters advise them on the differences in education standards, suggest well-regarded international schools like Dulwich, and discuss the necessity of having the appropriate visa for a lengthy stay.

I assume you have the right visa to stay in Thailand for many years as you plan?

And I said a couple of years not many

Lynsey Dick Well the average tourist visa is 60 days...So 2 years ("If not longer") is still 'many'...But what do I know? 🤔

Lots of choice for schools, demand has led to waiting lists in many so do your research, it will dictate where you choose to live Lighthouse is building a new campus in Rawai

If you want to provide him with any level of decent education, it will not be cheap....

thank you, this is not forever maybe only from age 5-7, the international schools look cheaper than private schools in Scotland

There are many good international schools. Dulwich is very good one in Phuket (not sure what its called now) they are not cheap

yes compared to Europe they are and usually a lot better facilities as well.

My son went to dulwich when he was younger but then went to USC in Singapore.

if you plan to send hour son to a thai school please realise that the standard thai school does not have the same level as western schools.
