Can I cross the border to get a new 60-day visa for Thailand instead of flying back to Australia?

Hi this morning. Iโ€™m going to apply for the 30day extension as advised. Is it possible to cross the border and redo the 60day visa and then extend. This will save me the flight to Australia and back. I thought I might fly to Vietnam for a week.

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is considering applying for a 30-day extension and then crossing to Vietnam to obtain a new 60-day tourist visa instead of returning to Australia. Comments clarify that it's not possible to simply exit and re-enter Thailand to obtain a new visa. Instead, they can apply for a new visa at a Thai consulate in Vietnam, which requires planning and meeting certain requirements. Some advice is provided regarding the process of obtaining extensions and the possibility of a COVID-19 extension.

It can be believed that OP got his answer. Good luck with your stay and travel around.

Covid extension is still possible, just tick the box 'other' for the reasons, and I just noted: 'travelling' as the reason and it worked, this tip was given by a local employee here at the immigration

and does not work at all Thai immigration offices. As we have reports of the COVID extension being denied in some at this time.

Vietnam is a great place to visit and obtain a tourist visa for Thailand.

Might I suggest this plan?

.. go to CW Thai immigration as planned today to get your 30 Day extension of stay...

... then before July 25th...go back to CW to apply for the 60 day COVID EXTENSION.

...that may be possible... BUT if denied you could be given 7 day stamp to leave Thailand...

...if that were to happen then follow up with your plan to go to Vietnam to apply for the Thai Tourist Visa.

... And IF you do get the COVID 60 day extension...you still could follow with your Vietnam Thai tourist visa trip after the 60 days COVID extension ends

If I need to start a new post let me know. I'm from the US and currently in Thailand on a tourist visa. I got to Thailand on June 2nd. Instead of applying for the normal tourist visa 30 day extension, can I instead apply for the Covid 60 day extension before July 25th? Thank you!

If you wonder, make your own post next time, please.

@Bryan ******
you can try but likely denied as Thai immigration will require you to get the normal 30 Days extension FIRST.

AND before July 25th...

Apply for the COVID extension of 60 days.

Try that sequence of applications... Good Luck.

Also, if I can do that but get denied, will I get a 7 day stamp or can I proceed to apply for the normal tourist visa 30 day extension?

Nope you can't cross the border and redo ANY visa ๐Ÿ™

You BUY visas from thai consulates in other countries then come in on them, you can't get them just by exiting/reentering the country at the border

IF you're going to Vietnam for a week you could get a new single entry tourist visa at the thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City OR Hanoi, (note HCMC requires you book an appointment to apply or you don't get in the gate)

Look at the website of the consulate you wanna use there for the requirements. Shouldn't have an issue applying for it if you meet the requirements. They only accept USD at the thai conuslates there and the single entry tourist visa is 40 USD
