THANK YOU LEO & ROBERT, CLARIFIED WHAT WE NEED TO DO.

We are from Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช Quick bit of advice or opinion needed.

We will be in Chaing Mai between July & Sept for just under 3 months.

Is it better to fly in on the 30 day tourist visa and get a 60 day extension while we are over there

Or

Get a 60 day tourist visa here in the Irish consulate before we arrive and get a 30 day extension while we are over in Chiang Mai.

In your opinion which one would be the least hassle?

Thanks!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether to enter Thailand on a 30-day tourist visa with the option to extend it by 60 days or to obtain a 60-day tourist visa from an Irish consulate before their arrival, along with a potential 30-day extension. Responses suggest that acquiring a 60-day tourist visa in advance is better as it allows for a straightforward extension at immigration.

Option nr 2. Arrive with a Single Entry Tourist Visa but try to buy that at the Thai consulate where you are before departure. Irish Consulate does not sell Visa for Thailand. You can extend the 60 days admitted to stay once with another 30 days at local Immigration. a 30 Day Tourist visa does not exist, it is called a Visa Exempt Entry (entry without visa).

Get tourist visa in advance, this gives a 60-day entry, then extend at immigration 30 days for 1900 baht. Note, if you arrive without a visa (visa exemption) you get 30 days but can only extend 30 days not 60.
