Hello,

I have a student visa made at immigration and I would like to cancel it and go on the covid stamp instead.

Thing is, I moved to Bangkok and with all the domestic travel restrictions I'd prefer to do those procedures in Bangkok immigration instead.

- Is it possible to cancel my student visa made in Phuket, at the Bangkok immigration?

- Any advice/preparation about getting the stamp for a covid extension at the Bangkok immigration?

FYI, I'm planning to cancel it because my current student visa is due for 90d report on June 21st and I plan to leave the kingdom to fly abroad in beginning July and won't need a visa anymore

Thanks a lot for your help!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether they can cancel their student visa issued in Phuket at a Bangkok immigration office and switch to a COVID-19 extension. There are specific requirements for both cancelling the student visa and applying for the COVID extension. Several commenters outlined that the user must return to Phuket to cancel the student visa if it features a stamp for an extension of stay. Additionally, comprehensive guidance for the COVID-19 extension application in Bangkok includes necessary documents, forms, appointment scheduling, and the application fee.

When does your current extension expire? Not 90days report due.

Do you leave Thailand for good or have plan coming back?

You have an extension until June 21. You may also have 90days report on the same (or similar) date as you mentioned.

You would need to 90days report anyway even if you apply for Covid extension.

And as the guys already mentioned, you need to go to the Phuket immigration office if you want to do anything with your current extension.

What you can do if you want to apply Covif extension in Bangkok is:

- get the termination letter from your school saying you would finish studying xx date (future date on or before your current expiration)

- go to the Phuket immigration office in advance (<- you need to check with them how long you can) to cancel your current one as of that xx date

- before or on xx date, you go to Chaengwattana, Bangkok, to apply for Covid extension

Remember, you need to plan carefully with those dates and domestic travel restrictions.

If you're going to get a new passport, you would go to the immigration office in Phuket and get the current extension stamp moved to the new passport and then you could fly out on it.

ok thanks
@T**
I had the terminology wrong indeed, it's an extension of stay. Also it's until June not July if I am right?

and as you can see reading the stamp you do NOT have any visa but have an "extension of stay" from Phuket good until 21 June. SO if you're going to cancel it you do it down there if you're going to go to another extension (like covid).

LOOK in your passport. IF you have a stamp that says "Extension of stay", you WILL have to go back to Phuket to cancel the extension. GET a letter from the school saying you have stoped studying on XYZ date, and cancel the extension. GO to Bangkok, and APPLY for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

>Any advice/preparation about getting the stamp for a covid extension at the Bangkok immigration?

To get the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, they will require:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office. ASK your hotel for a copy of the TM30 they submitted. [Sometimes people aren't asked for this, but bring it just in case]

3. The forms. FOR BANGKOK IMMIGRATION ONLY, you can find the forms listed in the FILES section.

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy saying they donā€™t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters. [Sometimes people aren't asked for this, but bring it just in case]

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

You will go to Changwattana Immigration Office for this extension of stay. You will use Counter N. You will make an appointment at

I have no idea what you mean by this :( The last day, legally, you can stay in Thailand is EITHER:

- The last day of your current extension of stay OR;

- When you no longer qualify for an extension of stay.

When was the last day you were studying?

@Benjamin *****
thanks for your answers, so I gonna have finish studying beginning of July. But I can decide to stop before (this month).

So Iā€™m thinking to extend my student visa (go to Phuket) to give me time to organize my departure to Indonesia.

Do you think I can show up at the airport immigration when leaving the kingdom with the old passport displaying my student visa and the new passport (+ the letter of the embassy)? Or I absolutely have to do the transition of the student visa to the new passport so I can leave?

Thatā€™s a very specific question, šŸ˜
Ellie *******
@Arnaud *************
You need to have your stamps transferred to your new passport at Phuket immigration office anyway you have to apply for an extension based on study or Covid.

If you are leaving Thailand within your current extension you can leave with old and new passport. (If you just leave for good)

@Ellie ******
ow ok so you believe bringing the old passport and new one will be enough. And yes Iā€™m leaving to go abroad for some time, but will be back in a few months end of the year
Ellie *******
@Arnaud *************
You CAN leave like that and it wouldn't be a problem if you are not coming back to Thailand.

If you are planning to be back in Thailand on some long-term visa/extension, you would face trouble when you apply for an extension (in the future) if you don't cancel your current extension based on studying.

So, you had better to have your stamps transferred, apply for cancelation, then leave.

When did you stop study? Was this a NEW Ed Visa you are on in its first 90 days ??? or an extension of it?

itā€™s an extension, I think the third

Youā€™d need to cancel your student visa/extension at the place that issued it - Phuket. Where you get your Covid extension is irrelevant as long as youā€™ve closed the ā€œunder consideration ā€œ loop.
Arnaud **************

@Stuart ********
ok thanks, what is the under consideration loop?
Benjamin ******
@Arnaud *************
When you apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, Bangkok immigration gives an "under consideration" stamp, which is a temporary stamp that lets you stay legally in Thailand for an additional 14 days (usually) while the immigration office reviews your request. At the end of the under consideration period, you'll return to the immigration office and get the balance of the time.
Arnaud **************

@Benjamin *****
is it possible to leave the kingdom with the ā€œunder considerationā€ stamp before the end of the review period? I will have my flight beginning of July. Thank you!
Benjamin ******
@Arnaud *************
The "under consideration" can be thought of like a "temporary extension of stay". You can leave Thailand during your under consideration period without any penalties.
Stuart *********
@Arnaud *************
yes, if you donā€™t need the extra days you can leave whenever
