Hello all, quick question...

I currently have a Non-O visa and thinking that a DTV would be better as it would mean I can work remotely totally legally.

I am going back to the UK in 2 weeks for 2 weeks, can anyone confirm that I should:

- 5 days before I leave cancel my visa.

- When back in the UK quickly apply online for the DTV.

What is the easiest way to cancel the visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about transitioning from a Non-O visa to a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) during a trip to the UK. They seek clarification on whether they need to cancel their current visa before leaving Thailand and the process for applying for the DTV once back in the UK. Community comments suggest that, unless on a specific type of Non-O visa that requires cancellation, they may not need to cancel their visa. It’s noted that the application process for the DTV can vary by embassy, with some having quick approval times, as evidenced by a user who received their DTV within hours of applying.

Quick very positive update - I left Thailand yesterday and submitted my DTV online application as soon as I got to the UK. My Visa arrived this evening, less than 24 hours later. 🙂

London very fast and pretty easy for DTV

London Embassy is very fast with approval given in 2-5 days.

Also, different embassies take different amounts of time to process DTV.

The only non-O visa you would need to cancel would be if you were on a Volunteer non-O with a work permit. If you're not on that, then you don't need to cancel anything. If you leave Thailand without a re-entry permit your existing stay will be null and void. But even if you have a re-entry permit it shouldn't matter, as people have gone to Laos with a re-entry permit in the event their DTV application was denied and they were able to stamp into Thailand with their DTV without any issues.

Yes, London does seem fast, it's slightly annoying I would be breaking the rules if I applied for it now (online from Thailand)

you could use a vpn it’s not like you’re lying you will be flying in from England and if you have your flight booked already then that proof should be ample.

VPN doesn't matter. The e-visa system doesn't look at your IP address.

I have time when back in the UK to apply and (hopefully) get the visa. If I apply while in Thailand I risk having 2 visas which I think is a big no no.

if you'll be in the UK for 2 weeks you should have plenty of time because of how fast London is.

Thank you, I don't have a re-entry permit at the moment. So that should work.

if you exit through the staffed passport control rather than the automated gates, don't be surprised if they question you and ask if you're sure you want to leave because you don't have a re-entry permit. So may have to assure them you are aware and it's okay.
