I currently hold an ED Plus visa in Thailand. I have already completed my studies and received my transcript in April, but I have not attended my graduation ceremony yet. My current ED Plus visa is still valid until September.

I currently hold an ED Plus visa in Thailand. I have already completed my studies and received my transcript in April, but My current ED Plus visa is still valid until September.

Can I cancel my ED Plus visa now ?

If I am required to cancel it from the date I completed my studies, I understand that there may be an overstay fine of 500 THB per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 THB. If I pay this fine, will I officially be considered to have overstayed?

Also, it has already been more than 90 days since I completed my studies. If I cancel my ED Plus visa now and pay the applicable fine, would I still be eligible to apply for a new Non-B visa afterward?

I would really appreciate it if anyone with a similar experience or knowledge about this process could share some advice. Thank you!

I was under ED Plus visa before and to answer your question about visa cancellation which I also did (without conversion), I just told my college (visa department) regarding the cancellation and they asked me which date I am ready to cancel it so they can put it in the cancellation letter. My point here is even if you cancel your visa today, the officer will still stamp the date your univ put in the cancellation letter. You should plan ahead before the cancellation stamp ends because overstay will start right after that date.

If your ED Plus visa is valid until September 2026, you have not overstayed. For the visa conversion, you should ask your company.

For me, my ED Plus visa was originally set to expire in September 2026, but I extended it this month until September 2027. I also graduated in May, just like you.

Chel I already have the WP3 for my Non-B visa, and the WP3 is valid until September 6. I’m considering cancelling my current visa without extending it. However, my uni told me that since I graduated in April, if I cancel my visa now, I would have to pay a fine of around THB 20,000.

I’m willing to pay the fine if necessary, but I’m worried that it might affect my ability to apply for the Non-B visa later.

I also want to apply for the ED Plus extension, but the uni is taking some time to prepare the required documents. The first set of documents they gave me had the Dean’s signature, but the immigration officer said that the documents need to be signed by the President. So now I have to wait for the school to obtain the President’s signature.

My concern is that if I wait for the school’s documents and my WP3 expires on September 6,. So, I just want to know if I pay fine

MagicalRhino7588 Oh, I don't understand the procedure honestly. My university got the president's signature and they prepared all documents for me. I had to go together with the visa officer from uni too. I don't understand why should you pay fine while you are still having a valid visa (Ed plus). It would be better that you should go directly to the Immigration and ask your situation. All the best!

Chel for extension till September 2027, you have done it by your university letters etc. Correct?

Otherwise it's not possible

Yes, I cannot extend it by myself. My university prepared documents for me and went together with my uni's visa officer to the Immigration. I also had to prepare completely for my TM30 (House owner's ID card and House registration)

You need to thoroughly discuss that with both your university and a new employer.

ED Plus is valid for a year after you finish studying. It's meant to give you time to find a job. In theory it should be possible to convert to a work extension from this. The only issue is we have no reports of anyone actually doing this conversion, or anyone successfully cancelling the ED plus. So you might not find any information here or otherwhere online.

MagicalRhino7588 as Brendon says there is no reason that you can't transfer from your current visa to a business visa.

You are doing the right thing by engaging with immigration. You have started the process of applying for an extension so you are not on overstay. If it is going to take a long time get this signuture it may be worth checking in back with your immigration office to let them know how long it is going to take to get the correct paperwork.

If you go immigration appropriately dressed with a smile on your face you may be surprised how far that gets you.

Good luck.
