What should I do about my student visa before leaving Thailand for Taiwan and returning on a 30-day exemption?

Hello, I need some help regarding my student visa ending. I search the thread but didn't find the answer I needed. I asked my school if there was a process with the visa ending in 2 weeks. They told me I can just leave the country and didn't have to do anything. I read on a few threads here that indicate I need a visa cancelation stamp but its not clear. I'm asking because I want to leave but return within a week. I have a us passport and plan to go to Taiwan before flying back to Thailand on a 30 day exemption. Will that cause issues?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When your student visa is ending, you typically have the option to leave the country without the need for a cancellation stamp if you are not on an extension of stay for studying. However, if you have an extension, it is important to obtain a cancellation stamp from the immigration office by providing a letter from your school. Without proper cancellation, you may face fines or complications if you seek another student visa in the future. As for traveling to Taiwan and returning with a 30-day exemption, if you handle your visa situation correctly, you should not encounter issues.

In my case is that: i also had student visa and i asked the school cancel for me because i heard if i didnt cancel I wouldnt do student visa again. And i asked school if i needed any docs to go out and they said no. I did visa run at border n came back with tourist visa again and there was no problem. But I really don’t know if i can do student visa again.

if had a visa then no problem. If you were on an extension of stay for education then you can't apply for another long term visa or extension again until you cancel it. A tourist visa is not a long term visa.

It depends on if you are on the original non-ED visa, or if you are on an extension of stay for studying. If you look in your passport and see something that says "extension of stay" then you are on an extension and you have to cancel it. If you are on the original visa then you cannot cancel a visa and you can just leave the country.

In order to cancel it you need a letter from your school that says the date you will stop studying, and then you need to take that letter to the immigration office that issued your extension. You can go about 1 week ahead of time, and they will cancel your extension and stamp you in until the date on the letter.

If you have an extension for studying and do not cancel it you will not be able to get a long-term extension in the future, and if you apply you are likely to get fined 20,000 baht for failing to cancel your extension in accordance with the documents you signed to get it.

I have an extension of stay until August 9th but will finish my class on August 4th and plan on leaving the country on August 6th before the extension ends. I don't have plans on a long term extension in the near future but I do plan on flying back to Thailand on August 13. Will I have issues with getting a 30 exemption coming back so soon?

That depends. If you have a university ED then no, but if you have a language school ED pretty much everyone entering Thailand with one of those is getting pulled aside and asked a lot of questions. Why are you in Thailand again? Why are you spending so much time in Thailand? You're not a tourist.

Brandon Thurkettle is a 30 day extention (purpose tourism) possible after canceling a ED extention?

No, you're not a tourist. You have until the date on your letter from your school to leave Thailand.

did you read my post? I said you won't be able to apply for a long term extension again. Nowhere did I say anything would happen at the airport.
