What is the process of cancelling a 3 month Non O and applying for a different visa. We fly in on Sept 15. Do we plan to go out and not use re-entry or is there something to do on the ground with immigration. Thank you. I have searched for this specific question but cannot find any relevant responses, hence asking.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Cancelling a 3-month Non-O visa is not possible in the traditional sense; you cannot formally cancel a visa. Once you enter Thailand with a single-entry Non-O visa, that entry uses up the visa, making it invalid if you leave without a re-entry permit. If you do not want to use your visa upon arrival, you can inform the immigration officers, and leaving Thailand without a re-entry permit will automatically invalidate your permission to stay.

You can tell them on arrival you don't want to use it.

If you enter and leave with a 90 days Non O visa without applying for a re-entry permit, you’ll also cancel your visa or permission to stay.

You can't cancel a visa.

But if you just have a single entry non-O visa, then it will be invalid after you enter Thailand because the single entry will have been used already. If you leave without a re-entry permit then the stay that visa provided is also invalid after crossing through passport control.
