UPDATE

Went to immigration on 15/2 to cancel the extension of stay. Just need to provide the letter from school, photocopies of all visa stamps in passports. Surprisingly no fines, maybe I am lucky?

Hi.

I have an extension of stay based on NON ED until 8 FEB 2022 from Bangkok immigration office. I left the country without cancelling my extension of stay at the immigration office.

I have the document from my school that stated I left in January. I will be entering Thailand via visa exempt from Malaysia again, Can I cancel my previous extension at Phuket Immigration (diff office)?

Any advice? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user initially had a NON ED extension of stay that expired on February 8, 2022, and left Thailand without cancelling it. After receiving guidance from others about cancelling the extension at the issuing immigration office, the user reported back about their experience cancelling it at a different immigration office without any fines. They are now curious if it was possible to cancel the extension at Phuket Immigration after entering Thailand again via visa exemption from Malaysia.

Okay, this is how that works, you can enter visa exempt or on a 60 day tourist visa and will have ZERO problem stamping back in. However IF/WHEN you go to get a 30 day extension they could see you never went and cancelled the previous extension and fine you 500 baht a day up to 40 days when it hits the max of 20K baht fine.

It's NOT technically an overstay (as in you can't get banned for it) but that's the only fine they can impose for improperly cancelling an ED/B extension before you leave.

I suggest you not enter visa exempt.

Likely to be questioned at arrival Why you return so soon?

Get a visa to enter and do not enter Bangkok BKK...use Phuket to enter.

I believe you will be on an overstay as well. If you enter after your extension of stay has expired. Regardless of whether you were in Thailand or not. I think that's the case

I feel a bit confused: his non ED visa will be expired on 2022Feb8, not yet expired now, and if he got a reentry permit before leaving Thailand and come into Thai before the expiration date, why is it an overstay? And if he didn’t get reentry permit before leaving Thailand, or he comes after Feb08, he will be stopped by the custom on arrival, won’t he? I am not familiar with the policies, may I ask your favor to explain it a bit more? Thank you!

Correct! The maximum fine would be 20K THB, and no other penalties will exist.

You need to go to the immigration office that issued your extension to cancel it. You cannot cancel your extension at another immigration office you just pick up.
