I am currently in an ED visa enrolled in school but have plans on getting the DTV. I will be leaving Thailand on the 22nd of this month to go back home for a few months, renew passport abut my ED visa valid the 14th of this month. But I’ve never gotten the extension. Do I get an extension at all? Or must I leave by the 14th?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on an ED visa and plans to leave Thailand soon. They are confused about whether they need to apply for an extension or if they can leave before the expiration date of their visa. After discussions with their school and immigration officials, it appears they can leave on the visa expiration date without needing an extension, provided they take the necessary steps for re-entry in the future.

The answer varies depending on what you call a visa. Are you on the first 90 days of an ED visa or are you actually on an extension of stay? Have you been studying and attending class?

UPDATE: this is the message I received from the school who apparently spoke with immigration (it may help someone else reading)

Hi. After discussing them suggest 2 options.

1.If you would like to do the resignation letter today at immigration office, we can issue you the document that you will leave the country on 14 so the immigration office will cancel on 15 (working days, Monday they are close).

2.If you won't do the resign today, you can leave the country on 14. However, if you would like to be back in Thailand to do ED visa again or another visa, you have to send resignation letter to the immigration office due to your ED visa statute of limitations being 1 year.

UPDATE 2: Went to Division 1 Immigration office with an official from the school I was attending, and they informed us I don't need to cancel since I'm leaving upon the expire date. She kept double checking and spoke with multiple officers there who all said the same thing. I don't understand why it has to be so confusing. SMH. I kept the resignation letter from the school, and queue number with the date, just in case.

The choice is yours, either get an extension so you can leave on the 22nd, (don't forget to cancel the extension before you leave). Or leave by the 14th.

that would mean I have to get an extension today bc they are closed Monday right?

And if I just leave by the 14th - would I still need a letter from my school stating my cancellation? Bc technically I was suppose to study another term, but am switching to a DTV visa when I return home. But my original Ed visa expires on the 14th. Then I was to extend it?

I hope that makes sense ?

just to clarify - it’s ok to leave on the 14th. I don’t have to leave the day before?

No need to cancel if you don't get the extension
