Do I need to cancel my Extension of Stay before leaving Thailand for a DTV visa application?

Hello everyone,

I currently have an Extension of Stay (based on Non-B) stamp that expires on Dec 25. I’m not renewing it because I plan to apply for a DTV visa from Vietnam.

Plan:

• Leave Thailand on Dec 22 (4 days before the extension expires)

• Work permit will be cancelled before I depart

• I’d like to submit my DTV online application on Dec 22 (same day I fly out)

Question:

Do I still need to go to Immigration to cancel the Extension of Stay even though it has only 3 days left, or can I just depart normally without canceling it?

Thanks in advance for any advice/experience.

The reason you got this stay changed and as you signed to inform the Immigration officer when that happens, why do you think you are allowed to change the rules?

Yes, you have to cancel your extension or risk a fine of 500B per day (maximum

An extension is not cancelled officially when it expires. If there is any small chance you will apply for an extension for whatever reason, DTV-based or any other, you'd better cancel it officially at the immigration office that issued the extension to avoid any trouble when you apply for an extension in the future.
