Hi - I was given a wp cancellation letter from my employer and another table that shows I am not employed anymore but I didn't receive any explanation about what to do. The letter seems to be addressed to an immigration oficer.

I'm on a Non B extension and I'd like to find a way to extend my stay in Thailand. What would I need to do with the letter / work permit and how could I extend my stay? Any way to obtain a covid extension or something like that? Many thanks for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you've received a work permit cancellation letter and want to extend your stay in Thailand on a Non-B extension, here are the steps to follow: 1. Cancel your work permit at the labor department. 2. Cancel your current extension of stay at the local immigration office. 3. Apply for a 60-day extension of stay due to COVID-19, ensuring to gather required documents such as your passport, TM30, and a letter from your embassy about travel restrictions. 4. Note that some immigration offices might have additional requirements. It's important to act quickly as you generally have 10 to 14 days to leave Thailand after your work permit becomes invalid.

Try yout luck doing the 90 day extension for the non b despite having lost the job.... It's being processed by some offices due to the current situation.

Don't forget to pay your social security yourself for a while, if you are planning to stay and maybe find another job.

My work permit ended in January. I went to immigration got the visa cancelled, got a covid visa. I'm still here and could apply for another covid visa until mid September. But we're done, so going home instead.

"another covid until mid September" What do you mean by that? A covid extension until Sept?

yes. Covid extensions can now be applied for until late July, which would take you up to around Sept 25th.

Did they ask you for a letter from the embassy? Was the embassy cool with that?

my case is a bit complicated and i did use an embassy letter when the first covid visas were issues. I dont believe that was the case in January and we haven't needed one since.

My understanding that you have 10 to 14 days to leave the country after your work permit expires or no longer valid

1. IF you work for a BOI company, there is a grace period.

2. You can cancel your work permit or extension of stay ahead of time, allowing a "grace period.

When a person's extension of stay based on employment is cancelled, a person has until 11:59 PM THE SAME DAY to leave Thailand. They *CAN* file an extension of stay.

If the immigration officer believes the extension of stay is not valid, it will be denied, and they will get a 7 day extension of stay denied stamp, requiring the person to leave Thailand no later than 7 days. In PRE-COVID-19, people would request to get an extension of stay denied stamp for some extra time to leave and return.

During COVID-19, I recommend for a person to apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. They will have an extra 60 days to either figure out a way to go home or to figure out a way to stay.

All extension of stays are 1,900 THB.

1. you'd go to the labor department and cancel your work permit.

2. After your work permit is cancelled, you'll go to the local immigration office and cancel your existing one year extension of stay based on employment. After you cancel the extension of stay based on employment, you will file a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and ant to use their special forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy saying they don’t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

That's realy helpful, thank you! What would happen if, let's say, in principle, my embassy would not be able to provide any of the above? Thanks again!
