Hi Guys, I am planning to apply for the DTV in Berlin. I am in Thailand already but will be back in Berlin in December for 2 weeks. Can I apply for the e visa while I am still in Thailand? For how long do I need to have the 500k baht in my bank account? Is one month enough? Can I hand in all the documents in German? Thank you very much in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in Thailand is looking to apply for a Thai DTV visa from Berlin and asks if they can submit an eVisa application while still in Thailand. They inquire about the duration for maintaining 500,000 baht in their bank account, whether one month is sufficient, and if they can submit documents in German. Responses indicate that while the eVisa application technically requires applicants to be outside of Thailand, compliance is often not strictly enforced. Two weeks in Berlin should be sufficient for processing, with a current bank balance overview likely being adequate. German documents are acceptable, but may need translation for visa extensions in Thailand.

Officialy you need to be outside of thailand to use the evisa website. They dont really check that but if they find you inside thailand then you probably lose your visa fee (350€) and get denied. (they would be able to see it in the system)

2 weeks should be sufficient to get it done in germany. it took me about 5 business days with the embassy in frankfurt. just a current overview of my bank balance was sufficient for them. no individual bank statements provided. yes documents in german are just fine. if you want to extend the visa in thailand you will need them translated into english or thai. not sure if that really needs to be a notarized translation. probably not. otherwise you could border run every 180 days.

They ask you to prove where you are how do you know they will not check?

they ask you to provide information about your current location to determine if the embassy you selected is correct. it does not even have to be your home country. you could use the evisa system in vietnam, malaysia, cambodia or any other country that has it implemented. you just need a proof of adress… for your home country thats often a letter head or id card. depends… they will check that and thats it… i personally know from many people that used the eVisa system while still in thailand and they all got approved on various different visa types. its not correct to do it this way but its also not really checked.

Well I read a lot of people here they say they have to prove where they are with stamps from their passport and hotel bookings.

You say it is not correct, but it is more than that, it is just fraud, and when discovered you made up evidence that is not real, I think that might have serious consequences.

thank you very much for this helpful information. What kind of documents did you hand in? Where the documents in English or German?

All documents in german language. Work contract + overview of bank account would be sufficient. if the contract states remote work. they asked me for „further documents“ which was a „certificate of employment“ (arbeitgeberbescheinigung). that stated my job, remote work, basic stuff. that was sufficient. i also added the last 3 payslips to the financiel proof but that wasn’t necessary i guess. i always think the more documents the less they will check each of them :D overall its very minimal effort to apply. just check the evisa page, its not a lot what you need… for flight you can just put in a flight number you potentially take. no need for ticket upload. for accomodation its similar. just put in your private adress in thailand or a hotel or whatever. also no proof needed…. ps: things could always change so surely they could ask for this and that. every embassy is different and dtv restrictions might change soon. as of now its an easy process

, just when you do the screenshot or account statement. They state quite clearly they won't check later.

For pretty much anywhere but Laos, anywhere from 1 day to 1 month seems to be sufficient.
