TLDR : Answer Summary
The duration for which the 500,000 THB needs to be in the bank before applying for a DTV visa varies depending on where you apply. Some embassies may require the funds to be held for 6 months, while others may accept it with lesser time. In Australia, for example, a simple bank letter confirming the balance sufficed.

In Australia I just got a letter from the bank that said my balance is X on today's date with my details, and that was enough.

It all depends on where you apply. Some embassies require 6 months, others only require days. It is all up to where you apply.
