I understand gold can be used as proof of funds as it is a liquid asset

But how do you show this in an application for the DTV?

Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
The query discusses the possibility of using gold as proof of funds for the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) in Thailand. While one commenter suggests that gold is a liquid asset, others clarify that most embassies require cash in a bank account to meet the financial requirements for the DTV. Some alternatives, such as investing in GLD (a gold ETF), are mentioned for those looking to convert their gold holdings into a more accepted form for visa applications.

Actually, gold is a solid asset. It is not a liquid

Sell the physical gold and buy the equivalent amount of GLD - this is an ETF that holds gold to GLD 1:1. You can open an account with Schwab or Interactive Brokers for this

yes, but just 0.4% and the original poster will be able to use the ETF to support his visa application, thereby solving his problem.

Can you suggest a better way to solve his problem ?

Some US embassies allow stocks to be used for the 500K THB but vast majority of embassies require it as cash in a personal account.

Understandable - A certificate of proof could easily be manipulated by an average scam artist so probably a silly question on reflection!

Investments can be used to strengthen your application. I added investments to my DTV application alongside the 500K and others do the same.

If it was alongside 500k why would they look beyond the 500k if that requirement is met?

I applied at Taipei which is infamous for its' focus on income aside from the 500k. I had very limited online employment income at the time of application so added investment accounts to show additional income. i chose Taipei as It was same day approval when I got it and did not want leave anything to chance.

No idea where you read that. For the DTV you need cash in a bank account.

Yeah I saw it somewhere in a topic that was about stocks n shares which arent immediately available whereas gold is. I know you cannot draw 'gold' from an ATM so its not cash, but they're asking for proof of funds not immediate access to cash so . . . thats the reason I asked

when i applied for my Non O visa through the evisa site there was only 2 options, 1. 800k THB in your bank account or 2. 65k deposits per month for 12 months. Gold was not an option and won't work.

if you read it on an Internet of facebook forum it’s obviously true as there is never false information posted, especially by some ignorant person πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Whatever you β€œunderstand” in this regard is wrong πŸ˜‘

it's easy. They just melt it down, and refine it first back to 24 carat pure gold.

gold doesn't work, as it is not immediately available as cash to pay any bills with. You can't pay a hospital bill with gold. You must have a bank account in your name only, and for most Thai embassies the cash must have been in your account for at least 3-6 months.

actually 2-3 months in account. I. Going thru this at moment, thai gov does not accept Crypto as cash even though you can cash out in one minute. They like cash in one account not two accounts
