TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether individuals receive refunds for rejected visa applications in Thailand. Most commenters agree that refunds are not granted if an application is rejected, as the fees are for processing the application rather than the outcome. Some share personal experiences of receiving refunds through chargebacks or direct refunds, while others warn against potential consequences of disputing charges.
Just be aware that when you do chargbacks against a company like Google they close your accounts. Not sure what the consequences of doing that to a country you might want to visit again in the future may be

A while back when people where doing charge backs against a certain airline, the airline stopped people at boarding when they next booked flights, and wouldn’t let them on unless they paid.
If you missuse the charge back service with a VISA don’t be surprised to get black listed and denied entry if you try entering another time.

I know one person who managed to file a dispute with their credit card provider to get a chargeback issued in their favor. As for what the implications of that will be for them, I'll let you decide.
I understand what you are saying Ben. However, if they are digital nomads with no ties to Thailand why would they want to risk another application? If it was me, I’d strike Thailand off my list and move on elsewhere.
I agree, that's why I don't recommend doing it. I just know of one dude that managed to claw the money back from the Thai Foreign Ministry. I got approved myself several weeks ago without issues.

I don't understand why this is a question. It is clearly stated. No refunds if application is rejected.
Spot on! ‘Charge back’ is what people should do. ‘Cancelled’ or ‘Rejected’ without a reason stated isn’t acceptable. Some people have tried to work out what those two categories could mean but no one knows for sure. We know there are bugs in the software. Who would trust a Government employee to get things right in their own country?

You shouldn’t be coming to Thailand if you can’t afford the gamble of $400. You sound very cheap and should remain firmly where you are until you become comfortable with spending $$$. No need for cheapskates anymore

Anonymous participant 153 ppl come to Thailand because it’s cheaper That’s probably why you are there yourself if you are
I know the consulates in Laos check your eligibility for certain visas before applying. I accompanied a Chinese woman who applied and got her money back.
