What happens if my DTV e-Visa application is declined and can I switch categories without losing the fee?

I understand that if you apply for the DTV e-Visa online, the consulate in charge can request further documents. In my case, the consulate does not answer questions prior to applying.

Has anyone experienced that they declined your online application and kept the visa fee without a chance to change the category e.g. from medical to soft power or remote work?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If your DTV e-Visa application is declined, you will not be refunded the visa fee and cannot change the application category. Instead, a new application must be submitted with the full fee. Documentation may be requested during the process, but once an application is rejected, no refunds or changes are permitted.

I'm not sure that they received all the documents on the e-visa, as when you upload a document, you can only see the last one you uploaded. I was rejected because there was no information about the job description in HCMC. This is why I'm not sure they received all the documents. I will reapply after that, but I will only do it at an embassy where you walk in.

Sounds like a smart choice. This e-visa has a scammy feel to it. My suspicion is that the consulates get to pocket the same amount of the fee no matter if they grant the visa or reject your application. Rejecting is less work for the same money, so the employees are tempted to reject.

It seems to be a common theme with embassies/consulates in general these days, not specific to Thailand.

We have our flight to BKK already booked. I consider staying on the tourist visa first and then going to a nearby embassy for the DTV. Which one are you planning to go to?

You need to say where you apply

If you apply for DTV, and you don’t meet the requirements under the category you apply for, applying under another category will be a new application. You will pay again.

They would typically request more documentation and allow you to submit it before outright rejecting. But once rejected no refund

No chance at all. They will keep the money and tell you to apply again.

It isn't whack-a-mole where you keep throwing spaghetti at the wall until something sticks.

Well, it is, at 10,000 baht a throw I guess.

If you are using the Evisa online application system, once declined, no refund. No change in your application to another option for the DTV. Requires a New application with full fee.
