What is the process for receiving an 'under consideration' stamp for the COVID visa in Thailand?

When do you have to pay for the extension then? When you get the under consideration stamp or when you come back to get the 45 days? I've been to immigration office today and had to pay right away, got no receipt or anything and I am wondering if they will make me pay again when I come back to get the remaining 45 days 🤔
