What is the experience of those who wait for DTV visa approval while in Thailand and then do a border run?

I entered today (without showing my DTV) and they immediately called me out for having the DTV and said I had to enter on that (was thinking I had to re-enter on my business visa and close it first). Anyway, I’m just thinking it seems to be very clear to them now on their screens at immigration, so I’d be concerned they note the dates don’t add up and cancel it - just a risk you’d be taking!
