I have a retirement visa valid until December, but I’m planning on moving permanently in the next couple of months. Do I need to officially inform the immigration office ? Or is it ok to just leave and let it expire. I’m just concerned if I ever come back for a holiday that they might not be happy with how I left.

Presuming it’s the same requirements as the Chiang Mai office, you need a letter from your bank stating your balance. This letter is valid for 7 days. You also need to update your bank book (and get photocopy of each page) on the same day you do your visa application.
