Hello, I'm under Education Visa expiring 31 May (last 3 months of 12). I'm OK with leaving Thailand within 31 July as allowed by amnesty.

Do I need to "cancel" my Visa at Immigration? I know it sounds a weird question, but a student of the same school told me he has been asked to do so.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the necessity of canceling their Education Visa before leaving Thailand. As their visa is set to expire on May 31, they are considering leaving by July 31 under the amnesty rules. Several comments suggest that it's necessary to officially cancel the visa at Immigration before the expiration date to qualify for the visa amnesty.

I have a retirement visa valid until December, but I’m planning on moving permanently in the next couple of months. Do I need to officially inform the immigration office ? Or is it ok to just leave and let it expire. I’m just concerned if I ever come back for a holiday that they might not be happy with how I left.

As you have the Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age, you do not have to cancel this at Immigration before you leave the country. The reason does not change in your case, you are and will be over 50 years of age unless you go back in time.

I'm in the same situation. I have multiple sources tell me that I need to cancel the extension BEFORE the extension ends, in order to qualify for the visa amnesty.

I may be wrong but my school said they provided a letter to show at immigration to cancel the visa. You cancel a week before.

thank you for the help!

Sorry if I wrote something incorrect, I indeed plan to cancel the extension of stay on the last day of my course (June 8), and then be on the visa amnesty until July 31. If I'm making some mistake about that, by all means tell me.

You signed a form to acknowledge to understand the terms and conditions who come with this permit. After you signed this form called STM02, the Extension was stamped in your passport

My current extenion of stay expires on June 8. I will cancel the ED visa as of June 8. Is that the correct thing to do, in order to qualify for the amnesty

I haven't actually signed the cancellation yet. I could get another extension on the ED visa from my language school. I am choosing to leave on July 31st, and, god willing, do a visa run to Savanakhaet.

Yes, as you signed the form to cancel it when the reason for continuation will change. Be careful with what you sign next time.

I guess you visited the immigration Office a few times with documents of your school and applied and got an Extension of Stay permitted up to 31 may as last big stamp. You have to cancel this.

Yes, that's right: I got an Extension to Stay up to 31 May at Immigration with the assistance of the school personnel. Is it mandatory I go to Immigration to cancel this BEFORE 31 May or can I just go before leaving Thailand? What's the meaning of this "cancellation"?
