OK this probably been asked loads of times but I couldn't find anything. There has been rumours that they will extend the amnesty again. I personally don't believe it but if someone has any info regarding this I would be glad to hear it. I have 10 people currently on overstay because of the amnesty and they want to stay longer. Some because there home country is in lockdown and others because they just don't want to risk going home. The covid situation is safer here

Those who believe they are at risk in their home country can apply for refugee asylum in Thailand. Good luck.
Bobby ********
@Ettore *******
. Thailand does not accept refugees.
Ettore ********
@Bobby *******
Probably some of these Folks who now want to stay in a safe country, are the ones who call the Coronavirus a hoax and reject real war refugees in their own home countries.
Ettore ********
@Bobby *******
Yes, I know. It was meant ironically since some believe their home country is not safe enough.
Bobby ********
@Ettore *******
. Point is taken. People will stretch the truth to the nth degree in order to stay in Thailand. I have said before that there are millions of people around the world claiming Covid 19 is a hoax, but ask any foreigner in Thailand, and they will swear on the lives of their children that Covid is real, it's alive, and it is running amok in their home country! 🤣🤣

They will not extend

They want everyone out or legal by september 26th.

They plan there travel bubble things October 1st. No chance of another amnesty or immigration records will get messed up.

Personally i think travel bubbles will not work but thats why you got september 26th date. Get legal or get out
John *******
Logically , the covid situation globally has not improved greatly , so I would think this same assumption would be made in thailand , and they continue to extend amnesty ....that is logically of course , so may not happen haha
Kool *******
You want a good example of nature being pissed off about too many tourists encrouching on their environment, look at the increasing number of wild elephants attacking cars, and sitting on them, to get the point across that they do not want them there. Do the tourists listen? No, they flock there to see the wild elephants. Real smart huh.
Kool *******
@John ******
, another thing this government is very aware of is the damage to Thailand's natural resources caused directly by tourism. There are many areas of the country that need rehabilitation, including the reclaiming of national forest lands that were unscrupulously used to exploit tourism. Cut down on tourism for awhile, and limit where they can go, can somewhat accomplish this.
John *******
@Kool ******
ah , now I agree , but it read differently initially ....yes , ground has been reclaimed illegally to extend resorts and hotels , but I would like to know who owns them firstly , whose getting the Brown paper bags and allowing this to happen , and what % of the rooms are rented by thai tourists ...as for people/ tourists getting attacked by wild elephants ...ample signage and rangers would alleviate lots of stupidity...
John *******
@Kool ******
I can see merit in your first theory , and is just that , a theory , but when you start blaming tourists for not looking after the thai forests etc, you lost me 100% ....tourists are not to blame for the shambles the thai fishing industry is in for example , and most certainly not too blame for the burning off of thai forests ..rehabilitation of national parks might be possible if they get thais to contribute a fair entry price , like tourists are expected to do , and actually have a government department that knows a little about regeneration and stops the raping and burning off , that's causing months of air pollution etc ...dont blame tourists , most are only in thailand for a few weeks , and have planned their holiday weeks if not months in advance
Kool *******
@John ******
, read my comment. I mentioned the encrouchment of the forests by those exploiting tourism. To be more specific, hotels and resorts encroached on national forest lands illegally to expand their operations. There are actually no burning off of the forests intentionally like in the Amazon basin. There are the burning off of rice and sugar cane fields, but not forests to expand farm land, like you are implying. And the commercial fishing industry has nothing to do with tourism. In the last 6 years 25% of illegally encroached upon national forest lands has been reclaimed, and rehabilitation started, with another 40% of cases in court. It doesn't matter how much you charge as an entry fee, when too many tourist descend on a place, it gets damaged. As far as your tourists that plan their holiday weeks, if not months, in advance, if they do not do a little bit of research about where and when they are going to a place, to find out what to expect, they are stupid tourists, and the cause of most of the problems, because they are the ones greatly exploited, without them having the least bit of clue.
Kool *******
@John ******
, Thailand, for quite a few years now, has been trying, and somewhat successfully, to close all the loopholes people have been using to stay in the country long term, without doing it the correct way, and mostly because they do not have the money needed to do it legally. This virus, and shut down of the borders, are giving them the opportunity to close those last loopholes, and get rid of those using these past loopholes to stay in the country. Get all the tourists out of the country, then make workable plans to restart controlled tourism, and try as best they can to eliminate people that scam the system because they don't want to leave, for whatever reason.
Bobby ********
@Kool ******
. I think you've hit the target. At no stage has the government even hinted at land borders opening, which means the border bounce days could be well and truly behind us. The compulsory insurance will be the last restriction to be lifted (if it ever is!), which makes border hopping impractical. The Thai government is aware that many people have been living in Thailand for years on tourist visas, and they've done well on it all these years, but I think the death knell has sounded with Covid. Longstayers will be almost compelled to buy an Elite visa or get the big bucks in the Thai bank account. These are the people they want here, as well as teachers and students who bring value to the economy. Visa exempts are a long way away, so the coffee shop digital nomads will have to start scouting for a new location.
Kool *******
@Bobby *******
, remember, opening land borders involves the other countries doing it also, not just Thailand.
Darren *******
@Bobby *******
personally I hope they keep the mandatory insurance, not necessarily for covid but general insurance to cover you. Should be mandatory worldwide in my opinion.
Bobby ********
@John ******
. I think amnesty is done, which is why PR Thailand is calling it "period of grace". Immigration is being flexible in allowing those they need here to get a hard visa, whereas others they are cutting loose. A friend of mine flying out on October 2nd went to immigration last week, with an embassy letter, to get to get an extension to cover the few days until his flight leaves, and he was rejected! They told him to simply pay the overstay fine at the airport. I think they've wised up to those getting flights and then cancelling. There was a thread yesterday about a person denied a medical extension even with a hospital letter. The poster did not state what the "medical condition" was. Perhaps "fell off a bar stool!". In all honesty I do think it's "time up" for the tourists and longstayers not prepared to stump up the money in the Thai bank account! 🤣
John *******
@Bobby *******
fair assessment, and no doubt some are some taking advantage of it , probably those same people are the reason the tourist visas have been changed ...

You can all get to your home countries.😁 I left in mid July after 7 months in Thailand back to my home country in Europe to see my elderly parents. I didn't really want to leave but had some obligations to deal with.. I'm just going to say it's not as bad as it feels, i have been on 3 trips within Europe since I got back, seen my home country friends, you have relative freedom here to travel and the economy is moving albeit more slowly than normal. And if it's the weather, then there are several hot places I could fly to from Europe right now.
SJ ******
I cannot fly into my home state Victoria, Australia.
Emma ********
@SJ *****
well the Australian embassy should give you a letter then.
David ********
I believe they will extend it till the end of 2020. But nothing is set in stone.

As a non-B visa holder who pays fo his extension each year, I'd feel shortchanged if the tourists just got their amnesty extended for free.
Bobby ********
@David *****
. Why do you think they will extend to end of 2020, when they've already formally published the guidelines for people on amnesty, have reopened the overflow immigration office to cater for extra workload, and have already started issuing new visas and allowed the transfer from amnesty to Elite to be done? None of these initiatives were brought in during previous amnesty periods. I'm just interested in the logic
David ********
@Bobby *******
Many people will find it hard to return to their home countries. Also, the stranded foreigners being in Thailand means an extra income source for the country. Extending the grace period makes sense.
Bobby ********
@David *****
. Realistically, people's individual personal circumstances are not the responsibility of the Thai government. If the Thai government are reliant on a couple of thousand tourists to support their economy, they're already too far gone! People who have a genuine reason for remaining in Thailand should be able to stay and if they have the correct visa they will, but people who arrived six months ago as tourists have no claim to stay indefinitely.
David ********
@Bobby *******
Some would surely love to.
Kool *******
The one thing the government looks at for people that don't want to go home, because it is safer here, is that, if they have been paying attention, Thailand has shown you how to be safe from this virus, no matter where you are. They do not accept the excuse of it being safer here for not going home.
Michael ********

I had to pay 15,000 Baht a month ago to get a One Year Extension of Stay of my B Visa. My Assistant acting as an agent got 3,000 of that and Immigration took 12,000. Steven James Mason - Calm yourself Mr. Know It All .. They are in charge - I am not. I had no other choice - no feasible way to make a Border Run to get another 90 day stay. Borders were and still are closed. I saw nothing in the latest Amnesty that would allow me a way out. Easy for you to mouth off. I was facing waiting until this Amnesty runs out - then being forced to leave the country. I own a business here. I can't leave Thailand at the end of September - then have it take 3-4 months to get back at 100,000 Baht minimum costs. I sense you have no idea of the complications involved.
Steven **************
@Joe **********
I'm on amnesty and when sept 26th comes I will leave the country. Till then I will teach at my school as I have been told by DOL and immigration I can legally do that....paying an agent to pay an immigration officer "tea money" is why the problem exists in the first place... But according to Thaiger newspaper today all visas will be checked that were got during amnesty. So maybe you'll be part of the new tourist attraction called Thai Prison Service... Why you just don't do things legally I don't understand your non b is legal with the province your agent payed for it in...it is not legal in the Thai immigration database and to do it during amnesty throws up more red flags than a Chinese democracy meeting

Actually not a surprise. My B Visa Multi-Entry was still active (my 90 day stay had expired - I was under Amnesty).

@J**
You have a non B based on an Amnity company though right? No WP? I've never heard of anyone getting a yearly extension off that before.
Joe ***********
@Garrett **********
- No I did not form my company under Amity. I bought an existing company with a new Thai Partner (while under a Retirement Extension of Stay). Then went to get a 90 day B Visa and soon thereafter got my Work Permit. (Actually a common route). Then the next year I decided to go to Penang and get a One Year Multi-Entry B Visa (not an Extension of Stay)... This required me to leave the Thailand on a Border Run every 90 days. Which I actually prefer.. Because I then never interact with Immigration.

You should basically go by what the government said. No more amnesty after September 26th. Go home, or get a letter from your embassy stating that they will not let you back into your home country. Anything else is just rumours, and could end up costing you bt500 a day overstay fines, and deportation at your expense if caught on overstay.
Alan *******
@Kool ******
thank God for a sensible answer!
Andy ********
@Kool ******
when do you think the overstay will be calculated from? Will it be the 26th September or the date of the last stamp in an individuals passport. I can see good arguments to use both.
Kool *******
@Andy *******
, if amnesty ends and the government starts overstay actions, it is hard to say. The government has been working with people positively, so I suspect if the person has tried to make arrangements to fly out, but couldn't get a flight until after Sept. 26, or their flight gets cancelled and rescheduled, when they booked before the end of amnesty, I suspect the government will be leanient. If the person does not leave, and has made no arrangements to leave, it could be harsh.
Todd *********
it's not a matter of whether the country will 'let' you in..... as the directive specifies, there are obviously circumstances under which you may choose not to travel for safety concern or outbreak situation in your home nation.
Bobby ********
Bobby ********
They won't extend the so-called amnesty, as people can now extend tourist visas as the immigration office with a letter from their embassy which confirms travel back to their home countries is not possible. So there is now a process which allows this. The other avenue is that they are now pushing the Elite Visa which is the only visa which people are legally allowed to switch to from amnesty. With measures like these now bringing in money, it's highly unlikely they will allow any further free stays
เอ็ดเวิร์ด *******
@Bobby *******
I think you’re right. I think they’re counting on the elite visa bring in buckets of money
Bobby ********
@Edward *******
. Already has. I noticed somewhere there's now a Facebook group "Elite Visa Holders stuck outside Thailand" or something like that. I'd say many have bought them expecting to get back in, but at this stage they're still not in the "privileged" categories!
เอ็ดเวิร์ด *******
@Bobby *******
yes someone’s recommendation I join the group about a week ago. Many people trying to get back in have or are considering buying a new elite visa although No one so far has been able to get a visa stamp at their local Embassy and Even in the elite Visa company is not guaranteeing the new holders will get in earlier than other tourist. It seems Some people are so desperate they just can’t wait to see how everything shakes out. There is so much confusion on that page
Joe ***********
The Embassies of major countries are not issuing any such letter this time - have announced they will not. So it is not a simple matter of getting an Embassy Letter
Todd *********
@Joe **********
and in the cases of letter being issued, immigration is NOT honouring them
Joe ***********
@Todd ********
So the suggestion of getting such a letter is a waste of time for two reasons... Many Embassies not issuing them and Immigration not honoring them.

Thanks for the info
Todd *********
@Joe **********
that's unfortunately a fact on both counts. At least so far. Will be interesting to hear if ANYONE has been successful in acquisition of a 30 day extension from a thai immigration office.

I did... twice..... 30 days and 60 days so my visa now expires on the 12th October, I recall your comments quote “ paying for nothing when the government has extended for free” Now it appears my 1900 baht wasn’t such a bad investment after all as I didn’t need letters from the embassy or have to prove that I can’t fly back. 😉
Todd *********

the point would be IF you could get a letter from your embassy and immigration would accept it why would you go through the process now. You would surely extend on the 25th September.

Joaquina ****************
@Bobby *******
, It does not have to be free, they charge 4000 or 5000 per month
Bobby ********
@Joaquina ***************
. The charge for extending is 1900 baht, but you do need the letter from your embassy which confirms that return is not possible.
Joaquina ****************
@Bobby *******
, I'm not doing that. To people who cannot or want to leave, charge them 4000 or 5000. Better to stay with those who are there than to wait if a tourist enters.
Bobby ********
@Joaquina ***************
. I don't know of any process where a tourist pays 4000-5000 baht for extension. My understanding from the updates is that all tourists must leave by September 26. A friend of mine has a flight out on September 30 and went to immigration to get a four day extension, but was told he cannot get one, and to just pay the overstay fine at the airport.
Joaquina ****************
@Bobby *******
, I know it doesn't exist, what I'm telling you is that they could do it, just like Indonesia has done
Bobby ********
@Joaquina ***************
. Ah ok. Yeah, there's lots they can do, but they won't. The amnesty has been six months, if they were going to do something it would have been done long before now. I think it's a security thing for Thailand. They want the tourists out, as they feel they've been here long enough, and for others to either get the right visa now, or to similarly leave the country. Thai immigration did republish the instructions yesterday in a number of languages, so that it's clear to all nationalities what the process is for leaving

Nobody knows, last time people were also freaking out. There is a chance that Laos border open but can only re-enter via air (14 days quarantine) via Phuket, BKK, and probably CM. I know it's silly to leave like that just to come back in quarantine the next day, but they need this money from foreigners desperate to come back.

You don't have to go back to your home country, there is other countries open atm with no requirement or, at worse, a PCR test. I am already looking at some of these countries to go with my Thai GF until tourists are accepted again (with acceptable quarantine fees or no quarantine).
Maxim ***********
The list is not wrong, but to know where Thais, in particular, can go based on which country is reopening, you need to check the link below (Finland is off-limits because it's target Gray, which mean that it will take a long time to get a visa to go there even if there was no pandemic). Russia might reopen soon and Thais can go with no visa so this might be your best bet:
