Any news of if the visa amnesty will be extended past the 31st of July? I work in Singapore but cannot return there as yet, and Im from the UK and don't want to go back there as hours no good for working Singapore hours. I'd pay to extend if needs be past the 31st. Any thoughts?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the potential extension of the visa amnesty in Thailand past the July 31 deadline due to ongoing travel restrictions related to COVID-19. Several comments reflect uncertainty regarding an extension, with references to statements from officials and speculation about the government's decisions based on the situation with the virus and economy. Some commenters express hope for another extension, citing the high number of expats on Non O or Retirement visas and the need for support during travel restrictions. Others are skeptical about any extension given that tourists have had ample time to return home.

My guess is the Thai Border and adjacent borders of neighbor countries (Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar / Burma) will come open sometime before July 15 (with restrictive requirements dropped) . Then large numbers of us who need to do a Border Run / Border Bounce or go to a Thai Consulate / Embassy to get a Visa will do so.

Not exactly the same thing but something to consider. My last border bounce was Myanmar a couple days before it closed. They had Americans (some others as well) do a medical checkup at the border. Just some guy in a white doctor coat, filling out a form. I had a thermometer but didn't check anybody's temperature.

I'm sorry

, but especially the older generation should not travel w/o suitable health insurance. If they can't effort, they should stay @home imho.

I hope you are right, particularly about the restrictive requirements, but I have my doubts. Thailand has been edging towards a demand for health insurance for some time. They may see an opportunity to bring it in as a basic requirement.

I cannot see the amnesty being extended in the current circumstances, but it will depend upon what the virus is doing. If there are serious fears of a 'second wave' then the neighbours are unlikely to open their borders and the Thai government may see a need to extend. Their alternative, I suppose, is to change the way that visa runs operate.

Cant see the amnesty being extended. Tourists have had plenty of time to get home. Most others can apply for extentions of stay as normal anyway.

Totally Possible. The number of people on Non O or Retirement visas is very high. Also the PM is not looking to open the land borders any time soon. There is a very high chance of extension otherwise they will let people with multi entry visas come back in without insurance or quarantine.

We'll know for sure by the end of the month. It will take at least a month (July) for everyone to leave and flights will need to start booking by 1 July. Another extension is certainly possible.

If they are smart they will let us stay cause if we all need to leave and no one can enter without it being a big hassle they will have way less people in the country willing to spend money ... and I’m like you don’t want to go home so would go to an neighbouring Asian country and give them my money

I don't think thai is smart that way. My visa school told me that thai govt will not extend amnesty and they will ask people to contact their embassy to arrange flights back to your home country, people will have to go home.

Frankly I signed for this group to have more info about covid. As soon as covid is over, I will leave immediately. Expat community is full of myths and false information. Filter, use your head and research yourself. Learn Thai.

Business and expats supporting young girls at the North are not equal. Look at the chaos in the USA. Is that because tourists left?

For several decades I hear this song again and again "they need us to spend our money here. We all leave and TH will be in trouble". It never happened.

There's no official word yet, but I did see that the US Attorney in BKK say (in two of his YT videos) that he believes there'll be no further extension to the amnesty. Let's see. It will be down to numbers - virus nos. - inside and outside of Thailand and money in the Thai gov't bank nos.

Prayut is playng down int'l flights reopening on 1st July.

No news or updates of change yet. I wouldn't expect anything until a lot closer to the waiver expiry date.
