TLDR : Answer Summary
The concern over potentially having a Bangkok Bank account frozen upon switching to a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) is shared among expats. Some users report no issues due to their long-standing banking history, emphasizing that established accounts are often safe from such actions, while newer accounts may be at risk. Overall, experiences vary, with many noting that banks prioritize account tenure and usage over visa type.

Had my account with BB over 10year, I've had education visa, work permit, 30 days, 60 days, covid exemption and now on dtv 18 month already, I think as long as they can see normal usage and no large sums in and out constantly or inactivity then you should be ok.

I have two Thai bank accounts, SCB and K.Bank, 16 years and 6 years respectively.

Both banks know I changed my visa to DTV, and they are not concerned at all due to my accounts have been opened for many years and steady banking activity

Posted just for info for other DTV holders

I have been saying (and told I am wrong) that it really depends on your bank and the relationship you have. Banks have full discretion in this and if they see your long term expat with costs and investments, they are flexible.

As many have said those of us with BKK accounts before covid basically should be fine.

I spoke to the manager 8 months ago when getting a new card, and was told absolutely nothing to worry about (had my account for 7 years)

Depends if you have had the account for a longer time. I got two accounts. One in Bangkok bank and another at K Bank. Open since 2014. No problems with the DTV status.

There is a big chance of getting your account frozen by any bank especially Bangkok bank. They have been cracking down and only accept long term visas to keep and account nowadays.

only partially true.. all accounts opened 5+ years ago are unaffected even when changing visa types. I have multiple and banks dont care. I talked to the clerks most say they're cracking down only on recently opened and dtv is fine as long as thr account had been maintained for a while and got good history with the bank

nothing to do with luck, perhaps shady transactions.. I opened 5 different account in all major banks while holding non-b like 8 years ago and updated all of those regularly when switching between stamps, non-ed and now dtv. Statistically speaking at least 1 of them should be closed by now so I call BS

If you obtained it long ago no reasons to worry if its recent they might close it down soon
