TLDR : Answer Summary
The community expresses mixed opinions on the status of Thai bank accounts upon changing to a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV). Some users believe that existing accounts will remain operational, especially if the account holder has a history that signifies low risk for banking regulations. However, there are concerns that banks may close accounts if they learn about the visa change. Many suggest maintaining a low profile and avoiding inquiries about visa status at the bank. Ultimately, the outcome may depend on the bank's current protocols and individual circumstances.

Nobody knows....I'm in the country with a DTV since early November, nothing happened so far. I have 2 bank accounts, one of them with 2 term deposits and a credit card attached to it. I opened them 7 years ago with an O-A retirement visa. Planning to change from DTV to LTR in 5 years.

Can someone explain this to me?

DTV holders cannot open a bank account, but if they stay in the country for more than 180 days a year, they are liable for tax. Without a bank account, you can't pay taxes at all because the tax office has no information and no tax number, right?

House and condo have nothing to do with it, If your on a tourist visa (DTV is a tourist visa) You are not allowed to have a bank account. If your married, Retired or on other appropriate visa then you can have bank account. A friend just before Christmas has had his Bank Account closed. He not long got his DTV but had bank account for years.

If you don’t do anything, you might be totally fine. But IF they for some reason close your account and you have to prove that you’re eligible to meet the requirements, could be a difficult situation. I opened mine on tourist visa 8 years ago, had a job with non b in the meantime and then found out that my lifestyle doesn’t need work and i want to retire. Unfortunately not 50 yrs old yet

If you already have Thai bank accounts with significant history then you would be deemed low risk regarding KYC protocols. You cannot open accounts on a DTV and newly opened accounts have been shutdown but existing low risk customers should be fine. Why don’t you go into your branch and ask?
Like

X *************
Not necessarily true. If you need to go into the branch for any reason and they see your on an ineligible visa the bank may ask you to change visa or face account closure How they handle this depend on Bank, bank branch so no one answer is correct but I have heard of banks telling people to change visas or face account closure. Going into a branch to get new debit card, or to do anything else in person could trigger this. .
