TLDR : Answer Summary
If you switch to a DTV visa, the fate of your existing bank accounts in Thailand can be uncertain. Some comments suggest that existing accounts may remain open if you are considered low risk due to a good banking history, while others warn that mentioning your DTV status could lead to account closures. It is generally advised to avoid discussing your visa status with bank officials to prevent potential issues.
I was told they might close this it in feature now I got DTV after got Bank account, they said maybe in a year or two. It will be a pain for me when use to pay rent, power and water every month
hopefully some changes will be made by then to make things easier, it's still a very new visa and I think that some adjustments will eventually be made

No need to state that you're going to be asking a question then follow through with a question. Get to the point. Ask the question.
DTV holders cannot open a bank account, but if they stay in the country for more than 180 days a year, they are liable for tax. Without a bank account, you can't pay taxes at all because the tax office has no information and no tax number, right?
It's just like in Switzerland. Anyone who spends more than 180 days a year in Thailand must fill out a tax return and declare the income in their Thai bank account. You lost.
well it is getting to stupid for me talking to you and Idk if you evee stay more than 180 days in Thailand and if they would ever find out and chasing you donw for it... but I would love to see you telling them you couldn't pay tax because you don't have a thai bank account😅
Anybody could use this as excuse🤡
I have to pay tax in switzerland regardless if I have an account or not. You think in Thailand it would be any different😅 like you can just avoid paying taxes by just not having a local bank account🤡😅😅😅
Are you really that ignorant? You have to attach an annual bank statement to your Thai tax return. You have absolutely no idea, but you want to have a big say in something you don't understand.
I don't need to be corrected by a dude hiding behind a locked profile asking a question and when you answer it he starting argue and insisting on nonsense.
You are ridiculous. Yes I know it better. Anybody stays longer than 180 days in a calendar year will become a tax resident. And tax will have to be paid regardless if one has a thai bank account or not🤡
As far as I know, money transferred from a foreign account to a Thai account is taxable.

Don’t say anything when I need to actually go into the bank and they ask for ID show your drivers license that’s what I’ve always done

Anonymous participant 593 Nothing will happen until the day you go in for a new debit card, but if that's still years away (max length of time is 5 years) then who knows what the rules may be then but if it's within the next 6-12 months, I'd expect an account closure if you're on a DTV or visa exempt at that time.
i went many times already as I hold multiple accounts, if you opened them on non-b and got history with the bank spanning for years they will not close your accounts , I got new card reissued already while being on a stamp and then switching to other types of visas - no problems
Paul *******
Anonymous participant 593 That's good to know but I still think it depends on the bank you're using.
you don't need a debit card my bank account offers cardless cash you just use your telephone number which is connected to your Thai bank and get a code it's very easy this is what I will be doing next time

if you lose your debit card and want a new one it will be a problem
House and condo have nothing to do with it, If your on a tourist visa (DTV is a tourist visa) You are not allowed to have a bank account. If your married, Retired or on other appropriate visa then you can have bank account. A friend just before Christmas has had his Bank Account closed. He not long got his DTV but had bank account for years.
I also know married people with condos that have had their accounts shut down. Only eligible visas like marriage visa/retirement visa can have bank accounts
just because you know some people that have been affected that way, it doesn’t mean everyone has or will. Do you know Farang in Thailand. I know people that have had a different experience. Just accept it.
fear mongering.. 99% who got thai banks are fine just like 99% of DTV holders who enter the country. We just keep hearing stories of the shady/extremely unlucky ones
If you already have Thai bank accounts with significant history then you would be deemed low risk regarding KYC protocols. You cannot open accounts on a DTV and newly opened accounts have been shutdown but existing low risk customers should be fine. Why don’t you go into your branch and ask?

Not necessarily true. If you need to go into the branch for any reason and they see your on an ineligible visa the bank may ask you to change visa or face account closure How they handle this depend on Bank, bank branch so no one answer is correct but I have heard of banks telling people to change visas or face account closure. Going into a branch to get new debit card, or to do anything else in person could trigger this. .
Mostly correct but depends on the bank. Wouldn't be surprised if Bangkok Bank shutdown someone's 18 year old bank account just for finding out they're on visa exempt or a DTV now.
