What should I do if my Bangkok Bank account is frozen due to my DTV visa?

Oct 6, 2025

I have a DTV visa and I opened an account with Bangkok Bank last year, i had problems making scan payments so last week I went to the bank in person, they told me my account has been frozen, I was asked if I wanted to close my account, I told them no, I have about 5000 bhat.

Im hoping the situation improves in a couple of months and simply they unfroze my account one day.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user reports that their Bangkok Bank account has been frozen, likely due to their DTV visa status. Comments suggest that the situation may not improve and advise considering closing the account and withdrawing the funds. Many commenters express skepticism about the bank's willingness to assist foreign customers under similar circumstances, particularly with recent trends of account closures for expats.

Have you been living under a rock? This has been in the news for months. Just go in and close your account and move on with your life BBK isn’t friendly to foreigners anymore.

They freeze it. You go into the branch that you opened account at, produce all documents required. They tell you that your account will be ok again in 7 days time. It will still be locked. You go back into the same branch. They will close your account infront of you and hand you your balance/cash. DTV is a problem. No other bank will touch you because of the DTV.

Take the cash and close it. They obviously don't want your business.

Anonymous participant 666 Exactly. Banks no longer want tourist customers. Too risky for them

Their official notice gives you a time limit. So if you never wanna see the funds again just wait a couple more months.

That's highly unlikely. Just close the account and get the cash out.

They’ve been closing accounts for like six months now. I don’t think it’s going to improve like you said “in a couple months.” That makes no sense.
