TLDR : Answer Summary
The ability to maintain an active Thai bank account when switching from a Non B visa to a DTV visa largely depends on the individual bank's policies. Experiences vary among users; some banks may require account holders to update their visas, while others may be more lenient. For instance, accounts at Kasikorn Bank may remain active for a limited time without updates, while Bangkok Bank has been noted to freeze accounts more abruptly. Users generally advise updating personal information before switching visas and being cautious about volunteering new details post-switch. It's recommended to check with your bank and have backup plans in place.

Your account will remain open until the first verification from the bank, for example, to update personal information or visit the bank for some services. It doesn't matter when the account was opened; what matters is what visa you currently have. A DTV visa is not a long-term visa; it is a tourist visa.

Until you tell the bank, nothing will happen, and even then, the staff may not be aware of the rules. My account is in a provincial city away from the tourist areas, so I have my fingers crossed. Before I changed to a DTV, I attended my branch with proof that my SIM is registered in my name and to update my new passport. I don't intend to go there again :)

I went through this. Have BB and SCB accounts from previous work.

So far it’s been fine but the issue may come if I get a new phone (as with Bb need to go in to switch app over) or need to go in for any reason..

Just update everything you possibly can before you make the switch.

And you can even open another bank (SCB and kasikorn seem to have been okay and not closed as many accounts as bb) just as backup.

this depends on the Bank and is case by case. the Apps sometimes randomly Flag sometimes and ask you to visit a branch to finish the install onto the new device.

The answer to this kind of bank account issue is: it is bank dependent. There is no law jn thailand dictating what kind of visa to open bank account and it is purely a bank policy. In reality there are bank that don’t care about the Visa type. Just try those less common foreign own bank you will have better luck. But then don’t complaint that they have less branch and not convenient etc.

They shouldn't until they request for a document update. That's not a long lasting solution.

Nobody can say for sure. I've had my TH bank for several years and recently got DTV. I had updated my information with them not long before applying, so they haven't had a reason to ask me for anything since, and I haven't gone to the branch to volunteer any info since. So, so far it still works. Advice is to not volunteer new info to them once on DTV and have a backup plan just in case. If you need to update them with a new passport number or phone number or anything, do it before you get the DTV.

Possibly not. I went from non-O to DTV and Kasikorn Bank has given me six months to change visas or they will close the account. Bangkok Bank are a bit more abrupt. They are freezing many accounts without warning and requesting the account holder attend their branch with required documents

Banks can simply ask you to tell which visa you are on, and at a moment you have to show your passport they can see what visa you are on.

So at evry occasion where you need to show your passport they can see which visa you are on.

They know the visa when you opened the account, and at some stage you have to go to the branch to carry out some transaction and that's when they see if you've changed visas. Bangkok Bank are randomly selecting people to take their documents into the bank for checking. I'm expecting the other banks to do the same. The banks are no longer maintaining accounts for tourists
