Hi People, my bank account is frozen 4 months after getting a DTV visa. Any way to unfreeze it or open a new one? Has anyone had a success?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing a frozen bank account due to being on a DTV visa, which is not eligible for maintaining a Thai bank account. Comments suggest visiting the bank to withdraw funds and close the account. Many advise that opening a bank account requires a long-term visa and highlight the difficulties of maintaining one under a tourist visa. Some express skepticism about needing a Thai bank account.
mine was frozen for one month before I got a phone call from the branch asking me to come close my account and take all my money back. now i am have all this cash which is frankly ridiculous. i'm think to buying gold coins with it.
I literally just got roasted and ripped apart by all the old men in the Bangkok expat group for stating that this was happening to DTV holders. They’ve just all torn me to shreds claiming I’m speaking nonsense lol
They just don’t like to hear it. As for many other things, like the extensions, most people were saying it would be as easy as leaving and coming back. 😛
He did not mean that. He meant that when the DTV was launched many were saying getting an extension at Immigration Office for another 180 days would be easy - that has proved to be false. Yes, it is easy to do a border bounce for 180 days
You legit dont need a thai bank anyway easy to get by without it, who wants a 3rd world bank that can freeze your funds at a whim, policys flip flopping every few months, no thanks
Anonymous participant 231 your correct it’s not just foreigners who have been affected. There is no law that says tourists cannot open a bank account it is only a policy.
All banks allow owners to open an account for the purchase of a condo. There are posts by condo owners in the threads detailing how they got accounts opened/reopened. Branch managers differ though in dealing with the account opening. I don't have a condo but know several who do Inc DTVERS.
Anonymous participant 669 you can stay 300 days a year and it would still not make you tax resident. It's not about non stop living. Then frequent travellers would never pay tax anywhere...
