How can I unfreeze a Bangkok Bank account while on a DTV visa?

ORIGINAL POSTER
A little off topic, I have a DTV and opened a bank account with Bangkok Bank back in September of 2024.

Like a lot of people yesterday my account was frozen/suspended.

Has anyone successfully unfrozen their account whilst on a DTV and if so what documents did you have to show.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

The poster, who opened a bank account with Bangkok Bank on a DTV visa, has experienced their account being frozen. They seek advice on how to successfully unfreeze the account, asking for documentation that may be required for this process. Comments from the community provide insights, with some individuals successfully unfrozen their accounts by presenting their new visa and passport stamps. There is also a discussion on the relationships between visa status and banking policies, particularly the implications for foreign nationals holding accounts in Thailand.

You must have your own condo or be married to a Thai. If you are a tourist on DTV visa, why do you need a Thai bank account? Use cards from your home country's bank. Many Mastercard Platinum cards offer free cash withdrawals from ATMs worldwide.

Central Pattaya, but I'm not sure of the relevance of where the account was opened. Unless the bank scrutinise accounts more in tourist areas!

no Jerry , it’s important because of the massive fraud of your particular branch ( mine also) they literally sacked a branch manager a few months back because of the “fraudulent” bank accounts that were approved to be opened over the months leading up to it

ah! I always knew this branch took back handers from agents to allow the opening of accounts. Thank you 🙏

Account was opened with DTV. Even though it was opened, DTV is not allowed.

Yes, had a success unfreezing an account at Bangkok Bank after transferring to DTV visa.

As it has always been with opening accounts, depends on the branch, the way you are dressed and the impression you make talking to the bank officer.

Documents shown were a new visa and stamps in passport, that is it.

Our particular case is Bangkok Bank branch at Emquartier.

Anonymous participant 686 Are you talking about recent unblocking or months ago unblocking? It seems these are two different events.

where have you been? There are literally hundreds of posts in the last day about people who just got this issue in all the Thailand groups. There's literally a post every few minutes between all the Thai visa and Expat groups.

wait till the next time you need to show your passport to do something at the bank that requires them copying it, like getting a new debit card or making a change to your account or opening a fixed deposit. That's when you will likely have the problem when they flip to copy your current entry stamp which will show you entered on DTV.

it will obviously catch up with you at some point where you need to go into the branch. It might be when your ATM card expires and you need a new one, for example. This just happened yesterday so you can't say they don't care because they didn't a month ago.

I just said a month ago as an example. What don't you understand from all the posts that this just happened to so many people yesterday? Fine, you would have had no problem at the bank 2 days ago, but tomorrow, you would if you had any interaction at the bank branch that requires them needing your passport to copy. Why is that so hard for you to understand? It's not all about you, now is it? The point is that this is a huge problem right now for many people, and you dismissed it as not an issue just because you are getting away with it for now, then claimed the bank doesn't care when you switch visas, when the fact is that they do, and they just don't know about you yet.

hahaha does it say he switched ? I opened 2 bank accounts on a DTV.

He said that he opened his accounts in September last year , I would nearly put my next months salary on it that he opened it in Pattaya on a DTV 🫶🏽

But if I was you , to prepare. Have a condo lease printed , letter from your landlord, water bills in your name , electric bill. All your DTV application documents. Print out from your phone company ( verifying your name/ number/ passport) Thai driving license ( to show that you are committed in Thailand )

If you go in with just your passport you won’t look as desirable as someone who has all there documents. Also dress appropriately no flip flops
