Will my bank account be affected if I switch from a Non-Immigrant B visa to DTV in Thailand?

Hi guys, I have been seeing many posts about the bank accounts of DTV holders getting closed. And I am wondering if anyone with a bank account that was opened on the non immigrant B visa.

Background:

I have been in BKK for about 2 months on DTV. And I have a bank account I made in early 2023 when I was on a Non-immigrant B visa. I was hired by a company in my home country and entered BKK on that visa if I understand it right. I was hired in my home country so I was already an employee and was basically an expat worker entering Thailand.

I opened an account with help of the company right away, then later in a month or so, I got a work permit. So in my case it was not an ED visa or DTV when I opened my account.

Update info: My bank is KrungSri bank.

If you have any information, I'd appreciate it!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the status of their bank account after transitioning from a Non-Immigrant B visa to a DTV visa in Thailand. They opened the account while on a Non-Immigrant B visa and have since switched to a DTV visa. Comments from the community suggest mixed experiences, indicating that some users have been able to keep their accounts open, depending on their bank and management's discretion. It appears that proactive communication with the bank is crucial.

Until you are forced to have any direct dealings with your bank, they will not know that you have changed visa.

I am in the same situation. I went to my bank and they told me I can keep the account. I have to say I never send money out of Thailand.

You haven't said what bank you opened with. Bangkok Bank is super dicey. Who knows what the other banks may do in the near future but as of now if you have to go into the bank and update your information you're playing with fire.

If it's Bangkok Bank it will most likely be closed.

It is dependent on your bank manager Similar DTVERS have kept their accounts open, others have had theirs shut..Speak to your bank, hopefully they are understanding.

I would not mention it to the bank unless they need an update for new card, phone or change of address. Let sleeping dogs lie.

I do not know if they are going to check all accounts systematically. If they do not ask do not tell. Bangk0k Bank has never asked me for an update - fingers crossed. Singapore seem to contact me annually asking for a TIN.

They are meant to. Krungsri has asked. It was part of the regulations issued. Expats were panicking. It does not have to be a Thai TIN though.
