Why has my Bangkok Bank account remained active while others have been frozen despite having a DTV visa?

I am on a workation DTV and my Bangkok Bank account is in good standing.

I just came to their branch in CM to restore online access, and everything is fine and working, they didn't mind about my visa.

It's worth mentioning that I've had this account since 2019, opened with the help of an agent. Always on a tourist visa.

I am seeing a lot of posts here about account closures, so I can only guess that their policy is inconsistent - maybe due to different account opening years or branches / jurisdictions.

In Chiang Mai I had no problems.

You're the first review I've found of a bank account being unfrozen with a DTV visa. You've given many people hope again. I think there are possibilities for reviewing each case individually, rather than following the strict rules of having a tourist visa or similar = bank account denied. (A two-week Farang tourist binge isn't the same as a tourist visa or DTV , with condominium ownership or residency in Thailand.)

It's a systematic batched process. I'm sure yours will be closed too in the coming weeks, if not days. Keep in mind there isn't a single button they can click that says "freeze foreigner's bank account if said foreigner is on a DTV or visa exemption". They're probably going account by account, and checking the documents used to open it. Definitely gonna take time, but the decision has already been made.

i couldn't find a reliable source about this. They did say they're cracking down on mule accounts, and also adding stricter opening requirements. Do you have some source about this backwards batch processing thing?

This is beyond frustrating 😂 my account just got shut down at the Tha Phae Gate location. Had it for a year and opened it myself and they shut it down without warning.

I’m happy you get to keep yours!

They are working their way back. Don't be surprised if it eventually will be frozen. Mine is also still working but I emptied it and have stopped using it. I would go to close it myself but there are always huge lines outside the bank with people who have had their accounts frozen.

They do seem to be inconsistent. A guy in the Chiang Mai Expats group had his frozen at the Airport Plaza branch on a O Retirerment Visa. Needs passport certified by Embassy to unfreeze it. Crazy.

Can I ask which branch? I was in Bangkok Bank today closing my account that had been flagged.

I opened on a Non O visa before switching.

They were apologetic but couldn't help me keep it open.

Mainly if you have opened your account in pattaya or phuket and if you opened with an agent or with a tourist Visa.
