Hi!

I'm applying for DTV in Hanoi, they requested all Thai visa I have received until present. Before I had two tourist visas - one single entry (I stayed around 3 months), one multiple entry (I stayed around 7/8 months). Has anyone's application been rejected because of staying that long?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is applying for a DTV visa in Hanoi and has been asked to provide details of all previous Thai visas. They are concerned about their long stays on two tourist visas (one for 3 months and another for 7-8 months) and seek experiences from others regarding potential rejections based on such history. Comments highlight concerns about stricter policies, shared experiences, and advice on providing explanations for long stays, with some users mentioning successful applications despite lengthy stays.

How far back do they want you to go? Just show all the previous visas issued over the past year or two but don't bother with any visas issued in previous passports.

Have you got an answer today?

Yes!! Approved ☺️

Don't they ask the same for an online eVisa application? It has been a while since I applied for an eVisa to Thailand, However, I checked the old saved folder, and I see a pdf file with previous visas.

I’ve been on tourist visas for 6 years straight, then Muay Thai for the last year. Going to apply in HCMC in 3 weeks, I don’t anticipate any issues (many friends approved with similar circumstances). Has anyone in a similar boat had any issues with obtaining the DTV?

@Austin *******
will you apply the soft route or remote working?

One of my customers ( I have a muay thai gym) had a terrible history. Had been warned at the border twice. HCM gave him the DTV and Said, good this visa is made for people like you.

The great reset is inching it's way forward. Slowly but surely the embassies are seeing too many rushed, weak, applications.

@Wannikea ********
stop spreading false lies, …. Just one month ago government stated it’s stepping up DTV promotion.
Raphael ********
Got the same request from HCMC yesterday 6 pm.
Danny ***********
@Raphael *******
What exactly did they ask for?
Danny ***********
Wonder if it will be an issue being here on ED 😅 maybe they won’t care I guess it’s worth a try, I mean I have to leave the country anyway so it makes sense to at least try. Albeit at the loss of $350 plus expenses, flights etc

all page from passport

@Raphael *******
did they request "all pages from passport" or the same as me "all Thai visa I have received until present"? because I uploaded only e-visas I received before, without showing them my passport stamps, now i'm not sure, maybe I should have done that too?
Raphael ********
@Natalia ******
they have request “all page” nothing was written about visa
Danny ***********
@Natalia ******
this seems a new requirement - when did they ask you this? I’ve been here on an ED visa I guess that’s what they are checking for
Natalia *******

@Danny **********
they asked for it 2 days after I applied as a request for additional documents

@Natalia ******
may I ask which visas you were here on?

tourist single entry and tourist multiple entry ☺️

@Natalia ******
was there a reason they asked you for your passport pages i.e the Thai transactions on your statement?
Matt *******
@Raphael *******
do you mind me asking what you stay history is like?
Raphael ********
@Matt ******
one 30 days visa exemption in January (used only 15), and 6 month starting from June under a METV
Wannikea *********
Your history sounds fine. Especially that you had actual visas and not a bunch of back to back visa exempt stamps. You mentioned 7-8 months, which is impossible, was it an METV visa where you left every 60-90 days?
Natalia *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Wannikea ********
oh i mean't 7-8 months in total! every 2-3 months I was going abroad, so I do have some stamps
Wannikea *********
@Natalia ******
you're fine, choose your embassy wisely.
Andriy *******
They asked cause they want to know how often and how long you been in Thailand… I was reading that somebody was rejected cause he’s not being in Thailand almost 5 years
Matt *******
@Andriy ******
where did you read that?
Andriy *******
@Matt ******
the someone posted earlier, he’s was rejected
Mo ******
First time I hear they as for that…

Strange as it is on a computer. They would just have to enter your passport details ?
Wannikea *********
Anonymous participant 208 consulates are under the MFA ministry of foreign affairs, immigration is a different ministry.
James ********
@Wannikea ********
correct ✅
James ********
Anonymous participant 208 they don't have access to Thai Immigration records....yet
Paul *******
I don't think they can do that. Only immigration has access to that database, not Thai embassies abroad.
Werner ************
Anonymous participant 208 they probably did and want to check the information provided vs what their information is showing
John *******
Seems like everyone is becoming much more strict now
Maurice **********
@John ******
yes. It seems that way.
Werner ************
@John ******
yes likely due to high amount of fraud
Rogerio ******
@Werner ***********
honestly what 'fraud' would it be if people can apply for the regular tourist visa? (which has little requirements beyond paying for the fee itself).

It's not like people couldn't already stay fairly long terms in Thailand.
Werner ************
@Rogerio *****
the fraud would be submitting fraudulent documents, no there are not many visas that allow you to stay 180 days for 5 yrs
Rogerio ******
@Werner ***********
But you can stay pretty much back to back on tourist visas, which some people have been doing for years, legally at that, which DTV just takes it another step further and makes it easier.

I do wonder if you've heard of actual anything fraudulent? or it's the logical assumption for seeing apparently more people getting asked for more documents? like, anybody posting about not being approved at all for not qualifying? i mean it's not even that strict qualifiers
Werner ************
@Rogerio *****
you can get 2-3 extensions under tourist visas before immigration intervenes hence why many are going to DTV under false pretence
Rogerio ******
@Werner ***********
I've been on and off Thailand for years on back to back tourist visas (not exempt). Granted I'll stay 2-3-4 weeks out sometimes, and sometimes a week. But tracking visa issues in these groups, I don't see much of anything different with other long term'ers having issues.
Deepak *******
@Rogerio *****
nothing is fraudulent really. People who stay on tourist visas and vis a exempt for long time border bouncing, the IOs assume them working illegally in Thailand. May be they just want to confirm that the DTV visa applicamt is not actually working illegally.
Rogerio ******
@Deepak ******
which is why i wonder about why would they be strict about it 'now', when obviously they didn't care much when people were doing back to back border bounces, _and_ people can still keep doing it on tourist visa/exempt.

It's not like they're cleaning up the regular tourist visas by restricting that, and the DTV people are a new class of people, if anything the vast majority are the long term'ers already.
John *******
@Werner ***********
totally agree. I got mine in July. I am a remote worker but only submitted 3 documents
Charles **********
What happens if you’ve been in Thailand for like 5 years?
James ********
Danny ***********
@James *******
yeah, flights booked to HCMC, might need to go elsewhere it seems
Charles **********
@James *******
I didnt realise this, ive been on extension of stay/wor k permit for last 5 years
James ********
@Charles *********
this appears to be a new wrinkle in the issue of the DTV visa... just now being reported and asked for. Suggest you provide a short note of explanation of why you were in Thailand...under work permit and now wish to obtain the DTV visa.

For what purpose for the DTV visa are you applying for?

Also give a pass on applying at the Vietnam Thai Embassy and Consulate ... There' are others not asking, yet
Matt *******
@James *******
which consulates would you recommend for ease of application? I was planning on Vietnam in 2 weeks but I’m now on my 3rd ED
Matt *******
although I do have a brand new shiny passport issued last month….if that might help.
Danny ***********
@Matt ******
It may help, just wondering if they ask me for the same they'll see I've been here two years.. the new passport will definitely help.
James ********
@Danny **********
Good Luck 🍀
Danny ***********
@James *******
thanks, I’ll need it by the sounds of this new requirement 🙄
James ********
@Danny **********
it's varied among the Thai Embassy's or Consulates
