Hey folks, quick question regarding tourist visa. Currently in Hanoi, applied today and was told I would probably be denied tomorrow because I've spent too much time in Thailand.
Quick summary:
- lived in Thailand for about 1.5 years with my wife who was teaching English, giving me a dependent visa (there were some tourist visa mixed in, we all know the drill)
- last fall I went back home after we split up and stayed there for a little over three months
- came back by myself mid February on a visa-exempt stamp
- went to Hanoi after those 30 days to visit friends and apply for a tourist visa
No idea what will happen tomorrow, all I can do is explain that I wasn't there as a tourist for two years and hope for the best.
I did however already apply for an education visa, the paperwork will take a few more weeks. So this tourist visa was supposed to bridge that gap. I assume I should not mention that at the embassy since they are already concerned about the length of my stay, correct? Or might it be beneficial to mention that?
Thanks for any input.
Edit: Update since the post was closed. Came in the next day ready to be denied and was just handed my passport with the tourist visa. So yeah, I guess you never know ..
TLDR : Answer Summary
The user applied for a tourist visa in Hanoi after living in Thailand for 1.5 years on a dependent visa. Despite concerns about the length of their stay, they were unexpectedly granted the visa. The user questioned whether to mention their application for an education visa during the process.
