Will I face issues applying for a tourist e-visa while my Non-ED visa is still valid?

Hi everyone! I graduated and left Thailand in the second week of December, but I wasn’t aware that I needed to cancel my Non-ED visa. Now, I’m planning to apply for a tourist e-visa to enter Thailand around March 28th, but my Non-ED visa is still valid until March 31st. Will I face any issues with this, or do I need to take any steps to resolve it before applying for the tourist e-visa? Any advice would be really appreciated!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on potential issues arising from their valid Non-ED visa while applying for a tourist e-visa to Thailand. Comments suggest that leaving Thailand may have automatically canceled the Non-ED visa. However, concerns about the necessity of canceling the existing visa before applying for the tourist e-visa are raised, along with recommendations to consult the Thai embassy for guidance.

No problem at all your visa will end as you exit Thailand ok

Terrible advice imho from people who I guess never tried to get off their ED extensions before. As usual YMMV

Wait until you visa runs out. Check with immigration upon entry

You're planning to re-enter Thailand on a tourist e-visa, but your existing Non-ED visa is still valid until March 31st. This might cause some issues, as Thai immigration laws require you to cancel or transfer your existing visa before applying for a new one.

To avoid any potential problems, I recommend contacting the Thai embassy or consulate in your home country to report your situation and ask for guidance. They may request you to provide documentation, such as your passport and proof of graduation, to support your case.

Alternatively, you can try to cancel your Non-ED visa online through the Thai government's e-visa website.¹ ² However, this option might not be available for your specific situation, and it's always best to consult with the embassy or consulate for personalized advice.

It's also worth noting that if you're unable to cancel your Non-ED visa before your tourist e-visa application, you might need to wait until your existing visa expires on March 31st before entering Thailand on the new visa. You should also consider reading a book or two before your travel.. I'd recommend a book "Thailand Unveiled 2024-2025" by James Anderson on Amazon..it has all the info and recommendations you need..you should check it out 😀

I might be wrong but you can't have two active visa, so even if you apply TR you will get declined on that application.

Why would you want a tourist visa if you can use the ED Plus option?

my ED Plus visa will expire on March 31st. I plan to enter Thailand on March 28th for 3 weeks of travel with my family, so I will need a valid visa at least until the end of April.

as soon as you exited Thailand without a re-entry permit your ED visa became cancelled. No worries.

you can't cancel an actual visa anyway, only an extension of stay. I can't tell what passport you hold but if you are entitled to a visa exempt entry you could ask the immigration officer nicely if they could stamp you in on that

If you left Thailand, your visa was canceled during the transition to immigration. To keep it active, you should have asked for a re entry before leaving.

In my personal opinion you shouldn’t have a problem. Only immigration will surely ask you the question.

they gave me ED Plus Exemption of Re-entry permit. It means that I don’t need a re-entry permit to enter Thailand. That’s why I am confused if I will face any issues if I apply for tourist visa and if I get it and enter Thailand with a tourist visa, will they charge any penalty?

send your Thai embassy a note on Line or WhatsApp. They can answer for certain

@Farah *******
if your applying for a TV and your ED is active they won’t issue a second visa your best bet is coming on an exempt entry
