Visited three banks today in Chiang Mai—Bangkok Bank, KBank, and SCB. All of them politely declined to open an account with a DTV visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user visited several banks in Chiang Mai to open a bank account with a DTV visa but faced repeated refusals. Community members suggested that different branches might have different policies and advised patience in exploring more options. They recommended bringing additional supporting documents like a residence certificate or property ownership proof to strengthen the application. Using a local agent was highly recommended as a faster solution, with reports of success from others who used agents for account openings. One user shared a successful experience of opening an account by providing thorough documentation, highlighting that actual property ownership can sometimes bypass the visa requirements.

owning property is enough anyway, visa is not needed with ownership.

Here we go again. I swear, we need to make one thread about this topic and pin it to the top, instead of having multiple threads per hour posted about not being able to get a Thai bank acct with a DTV.

Not surprising as the DTV visa is considered a Thai Tourist Visa. Patience and persistence is required going bank to bank seeking to open a bank account. Use of a Thai Visa Agent Will get you a bank account on the same day.

Use an agent. In Pattaya it was guaranteed. Krungsi in Pattaya central was easy before COVID 19. I have three bank accounts but I have stopped using them. I exclusively use my US issued bank ATM for cash and CC for most purchases wherever possible, like

I would greatly appreciate it if we could share the names and locations of branches where someone was able to open an account independently, without using an agent.

Sadly you may face additional difficulty based on racism.. You may want to consider using an agent to save yourself the headache.

Understand that this is a brand new visa, and most banks aren't even aware of it yet. When they are not sure they will say no. It is classed as a tourist visa as far as they are concerned, and that is a no. If you want to make it to the bank's advantage to give you an account then make arrangements to immediately transfer your bt500,000 equivalent by SWIFT transfer as soon as they give you the account, and in their presence. Remember, it doesn't matter what country the bank is in. A bank manager would be much more inclined to open an account for you when you can put bt500,000 into it immediately rather than the bt500 minimum to open it. If you make it worthwhile they will open the account, and not with promises, but with immediate cash transfer into the account.

yeah these were prices for Bangkok , I know if you go to Pattaya they will be cheaper. But a side note Siam legal said they can open your choice of bank account. Also the thing is as well it’s only $700 aud. ( yeah it’s a lot ) but it last for ever. Considering the DTV visa just cost me 600 for 5 years it isn’t to bad

Well I have been to almost every bank branch in Phuket with all the info you could possibly need and again, like you, we're denied based on visa. DTV will be no different unfortunately. Would have a better chance of winning Thai lottery.

What did you bring in addition to your visa? Did you bring a certificate of residence or any other supporting documents? 3 banks isn't alot of tries either. Same bank different branch may yield better results. Dress well and bring as much supporting documents like residence certificate, house lease, thai license etc.

look, your host, landlord etc. needs to file a tm30 regarding your stay. you take a tm30 hardcopy together with your passport, visa, rental agreement etc, go to immigration and get the certificate of residency. always after 90 days, you go to immigration again and file a tm45 (this time you yourself)
