Why was my Non-O visa issued as a single entry with only 3 months validity instead of the usual 1 year multiple entry?

I’m 67 years from Ireland.

In previous years I have been able to obtain a Non O immigration eVisa with 1 year validity, multiple entries and 90 days per trip. This was based on a support letter from my long standing Thai girlfriend (we are not married) of over 15 years. Multiple entry to allow me visit my son in Australia whilst in Asia Pacific and re-enter Thailand a 2nd time.

This time when I applied for the eVisa they issued a single entry Non-O with only a 3 month validity. The visa doesn’t state the number of days per entry. I’m guessing it’s only 60 days or perhaps 30 days.

Is the former option no longer available? Can one “appeal” or request a change to an eVisa? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a 67-year-old expat from Ireland, has experienced a shift in the type of Non-O visa they are able to obtain. Previously issued a one-year, multiple-entry Non-O visa based on a support letter from their Thai girlfriend, they now only received a single-entry visa valid for three months. Comments from the community clarify that such long-term visas based on a relationship without marriage are no longer available due to changes in visa policies. There is no appeal process for the eVisa, and the user has been advised on their current visa status, including the possibility of entering Thailand visa-free after their initial stay.

Or apply for a retirement visa and subsequent 1 year extension of stay whilst in Thailand and purchase a multi reentry permit to go with it.

You have a 90 day single entry Non-O visa (y) So come in, take the 90 days, then go see your son.

When you come back you won't need ANY visa to get in to thailand, you're from a country that gets 60 day free entry now (visa exempt)

Just show back up, get stamped in for 60 days and you can extend that one time inside the country for 1900baht at the immigration office where you stay

and if you have a Thai son, it may be possible to get a 60 days family visit extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.

To be completely honest, you should have not been issued any Non-O visa based on having a thai g/f 😮 doesn't matter if you supported her or not 😕 That's not a reason to get a Non-O. So that you were getting year/multi Non-O's based on thai g/f is totally unusual

They're issued for people married to thaiz, people who support half thai children, people over 50 (retirement)

When the consulates went to the eVisa system the choice for year long multi-entry Non-O based on thai wife or thai children, or retirement was discontinued.

If you got a single entry Non-O visa it's valid for 3 months from the date they issued it <- meaning you have that long to ENTER the country, and when you do enter you'll get stamped in for 90 days.

There is no appeal process for it, that option is not avaiable on Non-O visas anymore

unless by ‘previous years’ the OP meant over 10 years ago, when it was possible to get a 1 year multi non o in the uk for ‘visiting friends’ I had this visa myself 2 times before they stopped it 😬

... that wouldn't have been from the Thai consulate in Hull by any chance? I had a few from there as it was well known they were quite liberal in handing those visas out.

It was in the last 5 years, but of course we had the infamous virus in that period which temporarily altered entry rules.

It’s seems the eVisa process has effectively automated and removed human intervention to a large extent. Anyway, life presents new challenges. Duck and dive is all we can do.

I do remember back when they used to hand out those year/multi back in the UK almost for the asking 🙂 That was a good number of years ago those (before the honorary consulates closed as they were the ones handing them out 🙂 )
