RECENT CHANGE at Thai Consulate in Los Angeles for Non-Immigrant O eVisa to stay with Thai Family residing in Thailand (Marriage)

Same time last year I successfully applied online and received a one year multiple-entry Non-Immigrant O eVisa (based on marriage). I have been traveling outside of Thailand frequently during the past year which has prevented me from extending it in Thailand. I’m now back in the US and trying to reapply for the same visa but the only option available is SINGLE ENTRY. I just contacted the consulate in LA via LINE and received quick response confirming that ONLY SINGLE ENTRY availble since “regulations changed on November 28, 2023.”

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai Consulate in Los Angeles has recently updated the process for the Non-Immigrant O eVisa, applicable for those wishing to stay with family in Thailand. As of November 28, 2023, only single-entry eVisas are available, which is a change from the previously offered multiple-entry option. Users of the consulate's eVisa website have reported similar restrictions. For those seeking a multiple-entry visa, it is suggested to apply at the Thai consulate in Savannakhet, Laos, provided that they meet specific financial requirements. The discussion also touches on alternatives for entering Thailand and the implications of existing eVisas in the immigration process.

Well,
@Mike ******
like paul mentioned come in on this 90 day Non-O this year and then get the year extension. you'd need to be in country about 3 months to pull that off. Otherwise if you want that year/multi, go to savannakhet

I arrive back in BKK on Dec 30 and flying to Dubai for a week on Jan 7. Given the cost of the single entry visa, my thought was to come in on 30 day exemption showing proof of flight to Dubai if asked and then use the eVisa for my entry when I return to Dubai. Do you foresee any issues with this? I’ve entered many times in the past year on my non-O eVisa and been on extension based on marriage for many years prior. I figured if there is any problem trying to enter on 30 day exemption, Incan always say, “Oh yeah, I have this” and present my eVisa.

unless I am mistaken the fact you have an eVisa is in the system AND if you don't use it on the next entry, then it voids. So thinking you're gonna come in visa exempt WITH an eVisa (whether you show it to them or not) might not work for you

All you can do is ask

if they say no, just come in on the 90 day Non-O and then get a re-entry permit before you exit (if you're going to be back within those 90 days)

Yeah, that’s been the problem and the reason I got my first eVisa last year… Haven’t been in country for long enough to do the extension.

I don’t think there’s a limit on re entry visa’s so single entry still works just pay the 1200baht each time

Yep, even before that ALL the thai consulates that use the eVisa website went to only single entry for Non-O visa based on marriage or retirement..

Your best bet IF you want a year long, multi-entry Non-O is to go to the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao and get the visa there by showing proof you have 400k in a thai bank account or the equivalent in funds in your country.
