I am 63 years old, live in the UK and I'm currently in the process of selling my property. My Thai partner lives in Udon Thani Province and I have visited her three times a year (bar Covid years) for the past 17 years. We have never married. My plan is to move to Thailand and live with my partner from this September onwards. 

I would like to ask if I am able to apply (in the UK) for a 90 day non-immigrant O Visa on the basis of visiting my girlfriend or should I apply on the basis of visiting a friend. Apologies if tthe question appears somewhat strange but I'd like to get my application right first time.

Assuming I can get the visa, I will then open a bank account, season the required 800,00 THB and apply for the one year extension. 

I hope all the above makes sense.

You cannot get a Non O Visa as you have a Thai girlfriend...

However you can get a Non O Visa as RETIREE age 50+ in your home country by meeting the requirements for the visa using the Evisa online application system.

Then when you are in Thailand, you can visit your local Thai Immigration office and ask for their requirements for the One year extension of stay as retired.

OR...

You can enter Thailand Visa EXEMPT, get 30 days stamp on arrival as Visa Exempt Entry... And get One 30 day extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht...

And ask them for their list of requirements for the Non O Visa AS RETIREE and the One year extension of stay as retired. IT can be done if you are quick to act by visiting your Thai Immigration office after you arrive in Thailand.

Thank you. That makes things much clearer although as I'm not receiving a pension I will have to wait for the property sale completion and let the money sit in my bank account for the 3 month qualificaion period.
