Why is the marriage document verification process at the Ampur taking two months?

I have just been to the Amper with all my documents to get married. I believe I have done everything correct. Papers checked by the MFA in Bangkok but the Amper says they have to recheck the papers and it might wait two months. Is this right?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has encountered a lengthy verification process for marriage documents at the local Ampur in Thailand, experiencing a potential wait time of two months despite prior approval from the MFA. Community responses share varied personal experiences, noting that some have successfully completed the process in a matter of hours, while others faced extended delays. Several comments suggest exploring different amphurs for more efficient service or seeking assistance from embassies.

I'm starting the same process right now. I arrive Aug 20. I have 3 weeks to pull it off. I'm a bit worried. Is it more advantageous to do in BKK or Pattaya? My fiance has family in both places.

I'm a little concerned. I asked her which province is better and she thinks BKK. I really want this to happen. If not, I'll be submitting for a K1 or just cash out, come and figure it out.

I hired someone to do all the paperwork, marriage visa etc. They told me a the time 3 or 4 weeks. It's been 4 weeks already and I am still waiting on my passport to get stamped. There were several holidays so they said it would be a little longer maybe 4 weeks..

, I walked into San Sai's amphur and had it all sorted in an hour. Likely depends on who is behind the desk but we're known there (in a good way 😉 ).

Yep .. my waiting period was 3 weeks… much depends on which Amphur office u go..

I shopped around n got the Silom Amphur which gave me 2 weeks appointment.

Try your embassy! You can get married there without your wife being present. Then take all the documents to the local Amphur office and you can get a Thai marriage certificate the same day! But you may need to make a donation to the local orphanage.

It's because whoever you spoke to doesn't know what to do and can't lose face 😭

I married in 2018 and it took less than a hour. Amphur in Thonburi

I got married 2 months ago in Chaiyaphum and it took 1 hour, no police check, nothing. Only thing needed was the translated/certified affidavit (paper saying that I can get married). The mayor will ask a few questions and that's it, you get your marriage certificate.

Took us over 2 months. It had to go via Amphur, then local mayor and then police check (Thailand), back to mayor, back to Amphur. My advice, if you have police check (they say 30 days), get someone to call the police weekly to see if it's come back. Ours took a week, then further 3 weeks for the Amphur to say they had received it. Police officer apologised and showed me date he sent it on, so not his fault.

Yep. Can be that long

Nothing surprises me over here anymore. I have just sold my old Honda Click & bought new Yamaha Aerox. It has taken me 4 Residence Certificates to finally get everything sorted. 1 to sell, 1 to buy, 1 to keep same number plate, 1 to get same number plate again coz visa expired in between so 1st one became invalid. 1200B just for 4 × certificates. Absolute madness.

Even Thai people have to wait months based on personal experiences last month

Just like with almost every overly bureaucratic institution in Thailand, you can go and shop around for more favorable conditions. Just check several Amphoes until one gives you decent favorable conditions. I do the same with immigration.

Took about 1 hour for me but that was 11 years ago
