What is the current process and timeline for getting married at an Amphur in Bangkok for foreigners?

Has anyone in Bangkok got married recently? My fiancé and I are both farangs, we have our embassy affidavits translated and legalised and now just need the marriage certificate from the Amphur.

I spoke with 2/3 of the Bangkok ones, Khet Prakhanong’s number in not in service, and both said 1-2 months just for an appointment.

I read a blog from 2021 that mentioned a new process. After the initial appointment, the Amphur confirms the affidavits with our embassies and this takes 40 days, rendering the translation and legalisation a pointless process. I’ve only seen this mentioned once though.

After a few years of living here, I think I already know the answer; an agent, but keen to hear any recent experiences.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many foreigners in Bangkok are facing long wait times for marriage appointments at various Amphurs, with some reporting 1-2 months just for scheduling. There are tips to go to specific Amphurs like Bang Rak or Laksi that have reportedly quicker processes for foreigner marriages. Some expats have found employing agents to be helpful in expediting the appointment process. Experiences shared indicate that the timeline can vary greatly depending on the Amphur and the current circumstances, with some managing to secure appointments within weeks.

I got married in June , tried Phra Khanong , lak si, bang rak , Bangkok noi, and a couple of others i forget. All of them said that we must make an appointment and we were told 2-3 months . Ended up paying an agent 4k who got us in at Bangkok noi 3 days later. Got the certificates after about an hours wait.

I got sorted with this one. Thanks again mate. Every other one I approached didn’t want to know as I’ve everything done but the appointment.

Thanks for sharing. I can’t be bothered running around different Amphurs. Can you please let me know the agents details? Seems this will be the only way

My Thai girlfriend and I got married June 20 and we got an appointment about three weeks after we went there to have our documents reviewed and to schedule a date. That was Ban-Rak in Bangkok.

Also try Laksi Amphur. It's virtually across the road from CW immigration and the MFA.

They deal with a lot of foreigner marriages. I married my thai wife there all done smoothly and quickly paperwork wise.

Go to the BangRak amphur by the end of Silom road in Bangkok. They handle more foreign weddings than any other Ampur. You have to go in person to get an appointment, after they check your documents at the same time. They are very nice to work with. We just used a couple behind us for our two witnesses. We picked a pretty auspicious date after missing out on Valentine's day that just happened to be in just a few weeks, Feb. 29th. But even with that extra time, they are pretty fast on getting appointments in just a few weeks. Some people that have later appointments get handled earlier, if it is raining bad, as people will cancel, or not show up, as it isn't just foreigners going there. If time is a problem during the rainy season.

thank you! I called them but they said 1-2 months. I guess going there is my next move.

Can I please ask when you went and if you get the certificate the same day? Reading they need to verify the docs, even when their own ministry has legalised it, is blowing my mind. Apparently this takes 40ish days and we don’t have the time.

@Chris ****
you get the certificates in just a short time while you wait.

Like many things in Thailand it's all based on the Amphur who have their own rules. You just need to find one that will work for you. Keep looking

Organised chaos. TiT! Hoping someone can recommend an agent for the very last step. This groups owners can’t help, unfortunately.

you don’t need an agent, you are 90% there. If you have a friend who can speak Thai and as Garrett says a 1,000 Baht note to oil the wheels you will be married in a couple of days.

Congratulations to you both.

Thanks mate 🥂 I’m feeling a bit naive now after thinking it would be a 100% DIY job. I’ll maybe try that but at the point of wanting an agent to sort the final piece. Do you know of any decent ones in BKK? I’ve reached out to a few so far
