Hello everyone!

My experience from yesterday. After obtaining the marriage documents, legalized in proper way, with my thai girlfriend we decided to check where to get married and what is the procedure and requirements in the respective amphur in Bangkok . We checked personally at Bang Rak and Bang Sue, phoned at Huai Kwang. In all three places, we were told that must wait at least one-two months to make the appropriate inspection of me. No problem if mariage is between thai citizens. Huai kwang explained that this is because of many fake marriages lately. We asked whether the process could be speeded up because my visa is SE for 60 days but told us that they can't do anything and the only thing we can do is to wait...

So if you decide to marry in Thailand, keep in mind that you will need at least 2-3 months to go through their endless procedures and think well what kind of visa you'll need. Forget about visa exemption stay here. I would be grateful if anyone shared their experience in such a case. Thanks in advance!

And how nice the story is, I could not find something like a question about a Visa. You even named the options you have. Good luck.

Did you get Affirmation of Freedom to marry from yr embassy that states where you will get marry?

If you are willinng to try outside Bkk, it might be quicker. Try Samutprakran (สมุทรปราการ), Nonthaburi(นนทบุรี) or Ayuthya(อยุธยา) by calling them first.

I have noticed that it seems to take longer to complete this process. However, from cases I heard about, ppl just went to nearby provinces.

If your Affirmation states where you will get marry, you will need to ask first if another amphur will accept the paperwork.

In Thailand, rules are not always followed or adhered to. And rules can vary drastically. Just keep asking.

An agent I used in Bangkok altered the place where we intended to marry from our town (which I had put on the form) to the province so that we had the choice of any amphur. We actually went to our own amphur. Last September (2018) we went into their one stop shop (having no appointment). Form was printed and we filled it in. Told to fetch two witnesses. Mrs was asked if she wanted to change her surname? I didn't even have to speak. Didn't see a registrar. No charge.
