TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing issues while trying to extend their Non-O (marriage) visa for 60 days based on family reasons at a Samut Prakarn immigration office. They were told they need a COVID letter from their embassy, despite wanting a standard family extension. Commenters speculate that the immigration office may want the user to utilize the COVID extension to preserve their family visit extension option for future use, as only one family visit extension is allowed per entry.

So their advice to apply for the 60-days Covid19 extension has probably a reason, they want to ensure you do not „waste“ the “60 days family visit extension”now, as you can only do it ONCE on a previous entry. They actually might wish to help you to push your stay permit date further into the future, since they obviously know that you cannot meet the financial requirement for another “1-year extension of stay based on marriage”. They offer you to do the Covid19 extension for as long as it is possible to aquire

and its best if one can do that and keep the family visit option for future use.

brings up a good point

,

you can get ONE 60 day visit family extension per entry, SO if you got it already (even last year before your year extension) they would automatically tell you to get a covid extension.. Did you use your one 60 day visit family extension already?

Did you go by yourself, without your wife and the marriage documents, copies of her ID and housebook?

Yes I went alone or is it No, I went with wife and kid. What is the reason why your Extension of Stay based on visit family is refused?

Maybe you need it in Samut Prakarn? Is that not a red zone?

Why do you not want the 60 days COVID extension? Its easy to get...

And you still will have the family visit 60 day extension available to use.

there is a box / question on the application form for the COVID extension...

Simply place check mark ...NO

My Embassy no longer issues a letter.
