I have been informed that I must have 18 months on my passport if I want to extend it for one year based on marriage. I have just arrived in Pattaya with a 90 day non O visa but only have eleven months left on my passport. What can I do?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on extending their marriage-based visa in Thailand while having only 11 months left on their passport, which is reportedly less than the required 18 months. Commenters clarify that there is generally no strict rule on passport validity for applying for a visa extension; however, any extension granted will only be valid until the passport's expiration date. There may be local regulations that vary by immigration office, such as in Jomtien.

There is no restriction on validity of a passport when applying for a year extension. If your passport were to expire prior to that the “year” extension will only be until the validity of your passport.

If your passport were only be valid for 3 months on application then your “year” extension will only be valid for 3 months.

When you get a new passport you’d have to apply for another extension. The fact that you’ve “lost” 9 months off one extension is irrelevant.

I don't know who told you that but it's not true. Most offices will accept your application regardless of how long you have. But your extension will only be until the expiration date on your passport.

The only disclaimer I'll give is that the Jomtien immigration office makes a lot of rules that no other office in Thailand has. So they might have some crazy rule about this.
