TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of extending their yearly visa extension based on marriage to a Thai national by an additional 60 days for family reasons, as their current extension is set to expire on July 15. Community members suggest considering a 60-day extension due to COVID-19 travel restrictions and mention the potential limitations if a family visit extension has already been utilized.

Hi everyone,

May I ask a follow up question.

I have now received my under consideration stamp until 29.july for the covid extension.

Is this valid as new date until I have to leave the country or is it still the old date until the covid extension is fully approved?

Thank you.

On July 29, you will return to the immigration office, and they will put the remaining time on your existing stamp. You should be able to stay until around early September.

thank you. But my question was, if the 29th of July is my new date, I have to leave by. I might have to leave the country, urgently.

*IF* for whatever reason, the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is denied, you would get an "extension of stay denied" stamp. You will have 7 days to leave Thailand after you receive that stamp.

I have NEVER, EVER heard of *ANYONE* getting rejected for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

Thank you again, but what I mean is.

My old yearly extension ( marriage) runs out on July 15.

Under Consideration stamp for covid extension is until July 29.

If I were to leave the country on July 24, would I be on overstay?

You would not be on overstay if you leave Thailand while on an "under consideration" stamp. However, you will have to start the process over again

Thank you so much. That clarifies it. Wasn't sure if under consideration stamp counts already as part of the extension.

The "under consideration" stamp can be thought like a temporary extension of stay :)

Just be aware if you got 60days family visit extension on your current entry (not current 1-year extension) before, you may not get another.

I highly recommend getting a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 and save your extension of stay based on visiting Thai family for later.

Thank you for your reply,

May I ask, how the difference in applying for either is?

It would be ideal for me to be able to save the extension based on visiting family.

My issue is, that my bank (UOB) wants me to drive all the way to Bangkok to receive the letter of proof of funds. It's a 6 hour round trip. I have already placed some funds in a bank with a branch near us, but it won't reach maturity until 80 days from now.

Both 60 day extension of stays do not require proof of funds or income.
