What a joke! I got 6 month multiple entry visa instead of 5 years DTV.
I applied from Jakarta (workcation), the interview went well too (the interviewer was satisfied with the contracts, client chats I showed), I don't know what happened next.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user experienced frustration after receiving a 6-month multiple entry visa instead of the 5-year Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) they applied for in Jakarta. Despite a successful interview and satisfactory documentation, they were issued the shorter visa. User comments suggest various reasons, including potential issues related to the planned program duration, financial documentation, or visa policy changes. Some users advise returning to immigration for clarification or providing additional documentation, while others share similar experiences of receiving the shorter visa, indicating a trend in visa issuance practices.
i heard they started issuing tourist visas as an alternative to just rejecting the dtv if they deem you dont meet criteria for the dtv. Better result than a flat out rejection after paying 10k baht. You can email the embassy also so maybe email them and check its not a mistake (i doubt its a mistake)
This happened to me. I applied for the workcation DTV from Washington, DC, however since I had 2 months, not 3 months of 500,000 baht, I was offered the METV. Since that not what I wanted, I wrote a letter declining the visa and cancelling my application. Then I reapplied from Vientiane, Laos once I had the 3 months of finances, and was approved in less than a week.
I just obtained a non O (retirement) visa via the Chicago consulate and only the most recent bank statement showed the required 800,000 TBH. I was pleasantly surprised.
This has happened a bit, the consular officer has looked at what you submitted and decided you do not need a 5 year DTV. based on what you submitted they decided a 6 month multi-entry was sufficient. hard to see the issue though, you've now got 6 months to get everything in order and apply for another visa.
Hmm, well that sounds great however the DTV terms and conditions very clearly say if your not approved the fee is forfeited. So is this not a better outcome rather than just saying nope and OP's lost his money they have given him 6 months to get his shxT together. As for a reason is this a normal thing for other counties, I don't know I have never been declined anywhere.
Anonymous participant 326 I already had Thailand tourist visa which they told me to get voided first. And then I got the tourist visa again, it's pathetic!
For what purpose for the DTV visa were you applying for?
Workcation?
Soft Power activity?
If Soft Power activity...
Which one?
And for how long in MONTHS did you SUBMIT proof of your being enrolled in the course?
Where are you living in Thailand?
Where was the soft power activity located in Thailand,?
Did you have the 500,000 Thai baht in a bank account in your name only?
How MANY MONTHS of bank account statements did you SUBMIT with your DTV application?
Did you prepare the DTV Visa Application yourself or used an Agent to prepare the DTV application?
Were you in Jakarta when your application was submitted?
Did you stay in Jakarta or Indonesia until the decision was known?
Did the soft power activity course provider have successfully sponsored others who applied for and received the DTV visa?
Sadly the fact that you now have a valid METV multiple entry tourist visa in your Thai Immigration history you cannot Apply for the DTV Visa again UNTIL the 6 months has ended.
Anonymous participant I do find it strange (rather than pathetic) as you can't work remotely from inside Thailand on a tourist visa. Was there something about the information you supplied that might have led to them thinking you didn't actually work?
Mate I was the same, but understood it’s a multi entry visa for 5 years, you get six months at a time. Leave country, come back(best via an international airport) and get stamp for another 6 months. That’s it
How long was the planned soft power program you were enrolled in, and have DTVs previously been issued based on documentation from this institution? It appears that they obviously have considered the engagement insufficient to justify issuing a five-year visa.
