Went for interview and was asked for further documentation. I sent the docs over.
Was then issued a 6 month tourist visa by email for some reason. No explanation given.
Question for the group: does having this tourist visa now preclude me from immediately re-applying for a DTV using one of the other accepted categories? Obviously I will not be applying in Japan again.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user submitted a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) application in Tokyo, was interviewed, but unexpectedly received a 6-month tourist visa instead. They are concerned about whether this tourist visa prevents them from reapplying for a DTV under a different category. Various commenters shared experiences of others in similar situations, suggesting that it is possible to apply for a DTV at a different location once the tourist visa expires. They noted that holding two visas simultaneously is not allowed and that each case may vary based on the location and visa type.
I was just been told in Singapore, they are starting to be strict in DTV and rejecting. Don't know whatever that means but with TH reducing tourist visa length. Something might be changing soon.
If it is a multi-entry tourist visa, you will need to wait until it expires. If single entry, you have to enter once and then exit and it is used/finished. Then you can apply
Another Tokyo applicant was also issued 6 months visa while applying for a DTV. Tokyo offers a pre screening appointment to determine if you are suitable for the DTV. Futire applicants should make use of this service before applying online. You can apply again elsewhere. Other applicants have failed at one embassy then successful at the next. Try and contact them to see if they can give a reason why they gave you 6 months.
I have seen one from London, one from USA who were on METVs and got the DTV. On arrival at the airport, one mentioned being asked about the 2 visas and the IO cancelled the METV giving entry on the DTV. Also some on ED visas awarded the DTV before it was cancelled. These posts from last year. Not seen such posts this year.
I am assuming they gave you a 6 months Multi entry tourist visa (METV) 1) Today there was a post about HCMC refusing DTV until persons METV expired 2) There are others have said getting a DTV in other locations while on METV was fine 3) Posts say there is a record of your visas in the eVisa system.
